SPOILERS CONTINUE!!! Ghorpm: I've recently finished Downfall but unfortunately it's just an average game. Even less than average. What I absolutely love about the Cat Lady is that the game makes you think deeply about the depression, loneliness, terminal illness, friendship any more aspects of our everyday life. They are portrayed in a very twisted (in a good way!) and shocking way which force you (again, in a good way!) to muse over it. In Downfall, however, I didn't find anything like that. Sure, some common problems like anorexia are mentioned but you don't get any insight into it. You don't get anorexic person perspective here (that would as great as in the Cat Lady). All you get is a delusional psychopath perspective and frankly, there is nothing interesting nor original here.
After playing TCL I'd probably feel similar. Playing it some time ago, long before TCL, I have a really soft spot for it. Somehow it really made me feel like a guy loosing his sanity, locked in a strange place, followed by someone who thinks it's all a dream. I know it has flaws (mostly - it tells us very little about Ivy... and there were some nasty bugs, but they are gone in the newest release), but I still find it very enjoyable.
If you want to read more of my ramblings about Downfall,
you're welcome! Ghorpm: Anyway I'm really glad that I played this game but mainly because I can fully understand and appreciate the cameo which appears in the Cat Lady. I absolutely love the part where you find a key in a black cat statue. It's a masterpiece!
Once I played all three Rem's games and counted all instances of "something inside a cat":
!!!HEAVY SPOILERS!!! - (Parrot Snatchers - little, freeware comedy horror game) Lucas finds a key in his dead (natural death) cat's mouth,
- (Downfall) Joe kills the cat,
- (Downfall) Joe, in his nightmare, has to mercykill the cat and Ivy finds him doing it,
- (Downfall) Billy finds dead cat in Joe's (real) flat,
- (The Cat Lady) Susan mentions she hasn't seen Lucifer for some time,
- (The Cat Lady) Susan finds the key to Joe's flat in a cat statue,
- (The Cat Lady) If Susan says she entered Joe's flat because she's lost her cat, Joe says he's looking for a cat that swallowed his key).
Ghorpm: Oh, and just one more thing: every time is see a puzzle where you have to retrieve a key from the other side of a door I wanna puke my guts out! GAH! That must be the most horrible cliché ever!
Play Scrathes if you haven't yet :)
Ghorpm: Even though I didn't enjoy this game very much I still hope that the next game will be as good as the Cat Lady.
I hope it's going to be even better :)
