I like the horror content and psychological aspect of Silent Hill games. Would anyone recommend this game to a SH fan? I'm obviously not looking for combat, or anything that can't be expected from a point-and-click adventure. I'm just interested whether this game might appeal to me, coming from the SH direction. Are these games similar in any way?
I can't imagine any Silent Hill fan, Darkseed fan or Sanitarium fan not enjoying this game.
A bit of trivia: In one location you can find a banner from "Quiet Haven Hotel" and the first game from Harvester Games takes place in this hotel at the edge of realities.
If you're looking for psychological tale, symbolic otherworld and nightmarish locations - you'll find all that in the very first chapter. Check out the demo if you're still not sure.

Wait wait wait wait wait!

Off Voice: "It's enough when you say "Wait" ONCE!"

Ehrm... sorry.
I just purchased the game and... are you saying the game is the prequel to another one?
Now I'm a bit puzzled. Is that other game on GOG as well?

No, I'm just saying that the dev responsible for The Cat Lady made another game before :) That game (Downfall) is set in the same universe, the protagonist from Downfall makes a cameo in The Cat Lady (you can see him in the trailer or meet him in the demo) and if you played both games you may notice some more subtele references. Those two games can be played and enjoyed as separate tales and you don't need to play one to understand the other.
At this moment Downfall can be purchased from GamersGate and from Wadjet Eye shop. It's on GOG wishlist, so if TCL sells well enough maybe we can hope for it to come to us : )

EDIT:
Here's the link to the wishlist if you want to check it out:

And here is a nice and insightful review:

One thing I must warn you about - Downfall could use some cleaning \ bugfixing.

Ah, I remember reading about this on Hardcore Gaming 101. It sounded very interesting.
If it's similar to Cat Lafy, I'll consider a purchase. Once it's out on GOG.
So far, I like how bizarre the game is. Though I'm only at the hospital and exchanged the name bands.

It's more of a classic point and click... And just like in The Cat Lady, Joe's personality affects the setting... and he's not as sympathetic person as Susan.

A nice shock is coming your way : )

Well, first I need to figure out what to do. I have the name tag, so I should get the document, so I can leave the hospital.
Don't tell me the solution. I scream for help if I havn't figured it out by sunday afternoon.
Or I'll just open a topic. I guess that way the right people will hear me. :/
And don't spoil the fun. Now that I KNOW there will be a creepy moment, I will not enjoy it. Because right now IO'm hyped for this little shocker and I'd be disappointed by it.

Well game, do your worst. I want to enjoy this.

YES I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GAME IF YOU ARE A SILENT HILL FAN
The atmosphere and psychological horror behind "The Cat Lady" is brilliant
The soundtrack is perfect
The visuals are stunning
There are a lot of puzzles as well (but maybe not as difficult to figure out as the ones in SH)

hope this helped!
I'd say The Cat Lady is for Silent Hill fans just as much as it is for literature fans, good thriller movie fans, psychological horror fans, art fans and point and click adventure games fans.

There are a lot of different Silent Hill fans, and I'm not sure in which one of them the OP falls into, so The Cat Lady might or might not be for you, but I still say an honest "give it a try" (if you haven't already, given for how long this thread was created). This game is superb. Like someone said before me, if you liked games like Darkseed, Sanitarium, to an extent, yes, some of the Silent Hill games, chances are you'll love The Cat Lady. Of all the games mentioned, comparing it to Sanitarium is what makes the most sense to me, and I don't even know why, it just... does. So, if you want to try The Cat Lady, be sure to give Sanitarium a go, as well.

It has the tone of silent hill 2 if that interests you
Thought I'd tack something on here, though I don't know how useful it will be.

I haven't played Silent Hill so I can't comment on that. I do want to mention though that there is a brief clip near the end of Cat Lady that didn't make a lot of sense to those of us who only played CL (spoiler in URL), but which apparently made sense to people who had played Downfall (I haven't played it either). So while it's not required in the least, people interested in CL might want to consider playing Downfall first.

Also, though a much simpler game, those interested in psychological thrillers may be interested in Lone Survivor, which I actually did play and found enjoyable. I also recently learned that the dev has released a director's cut version of the game after 10 months of work. If you already have the original game, such as from Humble Bundle 5, you get the update free!

It's definitely for Silent Hill fans. I think so, at least. I tried to convince my friend, who is a SH fanatic, to play this game and he... well, I'm not sure, I think he liked it. It's an awesome experience though. You won't be disappointed.
