Hi everybody. Just purchased this game because of the many good reviews I read on the web.

There's just one problem: the game is really, really, reeeeeeeally slow. The Lady takes half a minute just to advance one step and I'm in high risk of dying from boredom rather than from fear.

I tried a couple of options from the SETUP (window mode, direct3D/directDraw, toggling the scaled sprites, downgrading to 16-bit etc.) but sadly nothing changed. The game is just unplayable.

A rapid search on the internet showed no answer.

Is there a way you could help me?
Do you need my specifics?

Thanks in advance.

I think your specs could be helpful...
Does it change in any way if you play in a window? Did you set any filters on? Did you try to run any other game nade with Adventure Game Studio? Is your DirectX up to date?
Window mode changes nothing. So does putting on any filter, except that it makes the game run even slower :(

From AGS I played the Chzo Mythos games and they ran alright - except for a color glitch in Trilby's Notes which I resolved by playing it windowed.

My DirectX is up to date.

My specs:
Processor - Intel Atom 330 1.60gHz
RAM - 2GB
Video - nVidia ION 256 mb

Can you reach the tunnel in the beginning (where there are no moving obiects on the background?)
I tried it on 2GB RAM and 256 MB graphic card and it worked fine - so if anything, that's the processor's fault... Or something I'm not aware of.
You can try to contact Screen7 at support [at] screen7 [dot] co [dot] uk - maybe they can help...
Yeah, in the tunnel the game is just as slow as outside.

Well, I'll try some more and then I'll send a mail to the team.
Sorry to hear that.

I'd count on it being a system issue of some kind. I'm afraid there aren't enough AGS games utilizing the higher end of DirectX technology for us to have a proper understanding of what causes this yet.

The most major cause is having winsetup set to "DirectDraw" instead of Direct3D. That essentially, is the only thing the game will do to slow your experience down. If it remains slow it could be because:

- DirectX9.0 issue, or not up to date
- Anti-virus (esp. Norton) slowing down the game (it has been known to happen)
- HDD space, you should have 2 or 3gb free space or more when playing the game

As always, the best we can recommend is trying it on another machine, PC, laptop etc to see if the experience differs, from that you may be able to discern what's different about your 2 systems.

And if you find any other reason that may have slowed it, we are all ears. regards!

EDIT: Yes it may be some awkward limitation of the engine with some newer systems but I've not found any proof of that myself.

Maybe manual port to new version of AGS could help here?
