Anyways.. how do I enable windowed mode? I've found the info that there should be an ogre.cfg in the games main directory where I should set "Fullscreen=No" (or "Full Screen=No" ... sources differ about it) but I can't find any ogre.cfg in the first place and creating one doesn't work either.

What did happen? Is this some sort of wrapup? Hmm... any intel would be nice :-)

Hmm.. just as a precaution I'll drop a bonus code:

Just ask the right question and I'll give you an URL to redeem the code.

I am not 100% sure about this since I am at home atm and the comp I have won't run the game but I think, as with most games, the .cfg file gets created after you first run the game.

Also, I think the full screen option may or may not go by 'True' or 'False' (without quotes), at least that is how I have seen most configuration files go about any particular game options.
Thanks - just checked it again - the game won't create that mentioned ogre.cfg (don't know if that's even true in any version of the game, just found that info via Google) and the config.xml doesn't state anything about fullscreen.

But I'm already half through the game (wild guess, but came pretty far) and having it in native resolution and nice graphics, without it messing up my other windows and going outside with the mouse to the other screen.... works pretty much ok. A bit sad that it's on the wrong screen, but I've had worse ;-)

I'd still love to see it go to the second screen as overlay in 1920x1080 (or as a bit smaller window that I could move over to the other screen) without the need to Alt+Tab tho. So if anyone has any idea: I'm still interested =)

/ps:

"JudasIscariot" eh? Haven't I seen your face somewhere asking to get in touch with some errr... Space Rangers developers I think? So now I can figure what NDA you were talking about, hehe :D ... what a small world.

Since my suggestion didn't seem to help, I can heartily recommend writing to our Support team with a description of the problem.

Hmmm, I don't recall trying to get in touch with the devs of Space Rangers :P
I sent you a PM.
And it worked, thank you again!

Okay.. I checked. Even tho I probably won't get smacked on the head for posting the solution, GOG does not support this method officially.

What you need to get the game into windowed mode is a little HEX editing. If you've got no HEX editor so far, just google for "Hex Workshop" - there is a nice 64bit application available.

The setting for Fullscreen=Yes is hardcoded into the bout.exe file. If you want to change it please know, that it could violate some weird regulations in your country (i don't really know). Here are the steps:

1. Make a BACKUP COPY of the original bout.exe
2. Make sure you made a BACKUP
3. If you skipped the first 2 steps, make a backup now.
4. If you don't know what a backup is, just create a copy of the bout.exe file somewhere, that you can copy back if you break your original file.
5. Open the bout.exe with Hex Workshop (or any other HEX editor)
6. Press CTRL+F to open the search dialog
7. Search for the HEX value "59 65 73 00 46 75 6C 6C"
8. Replace the match with "4E 6F 00 00 46 75 6C 6C"
9. Save the file and enjoy windowed gameplay.

Actually you're just changing the first 3 pairs from
59 65 73 = Yes
to
4E 6F 00 = No.

In most HEX editors you'll see the text string equivalent to what you're editing. To confirm you're right it should read "Yes.Full Screen" before your change and "No..Full Screen" afterwards (yes, there are two dots).

If you wanna go back to full screen mode, just overwrite your changed file with the backup you hopefully made ;-)

Hi Vertex,
I was able to accomplish the hex edit as you described, thanks! One more question though, I thought once I got it in windowed mode I'd be able to freely move my mouse between windows but it becomes trapped in the game window, is there anyway to change that?
i cannot get the two headed monster to give me the disguise..game messes up. he says here take it..nothing happens and i cannot click on anything.
