Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knew how/if you can transfer characters from the Apple IIGS version of BT2 to the Apple II version of BT3? As this package uses these different versions Im trying to figure out how I would carry a party all the way through the three original games.

Even better would be a way to transfer from the Apple IIGS version of BT2 to the DOS version of BT3 as its better than the Apple II version and there is a fan patch that fixes its bugs.

Another related question: is there a way to transfer my old DOS characters for BT1 into the Apple IIGS version of BT2? Or a character editor to allow me to re-create my party in the Apple IIGS version of BT2?

Thanks

FWIW, i think the drifting patch doesn't fix everything with the dos version, but it does fix many of the problems.

BTW Adoru, I'm intrigued by your tool; I'm actually interested in going in the opposite direction (bt2 c64 -> IIgs). Ah -- it seems your tool can handle reading IIgs BT1 &2, and writing Dos BT1/BT2 & DOS+c64+apple BT3. Where I got stumped was C64 bt2 which uses some scheme with a rolling xor and a checksum.

In any event, consider sharing it on bardstale.brotherhood.de in any form.

Yes, that is what it does.
I could also make it in the opposite direction from DOS to IIGS, but my knowledge is not enough to figure out, how are BT2 C64 characters stored.

Could you share it yourself, please? I don't think I can add something else to discussion there.

No, I meant I could not figure it out either.

The start of a character starts XORed with 0x7f, then the next byte xored with 0x7e and so on.
However that just gets the name unpacked. I got stuck trying to figure out the stat encoding method.

If you have source that you are willing to share, I"m interested in reading it.

Indeed, I can get names now, but everything else is encoded with other method.
Still can't figure it out too.

Source is quite messy, but probably you can get something from it:

Thanks!
Thanks! I haven't had the time to check it out in detail but from my brief look it is exactly what I was looking for. I think there a number of people who will be very grateful for your work.

Edit: About the only feature I can think of to add would be to be able to transfer BT2 DOS or IIGS to the graphically superior Amiga version of BT3.
