The GOG release was just fine, I thought, but it was a couple of hours later than originally slated for some reason. I used Galaxy to install because I noticed that the manual download files appeared out of order--they had mixed up a couple of different versions in the manual files (I'll go back later and get them for my game backups)--but anyway, it's fine, I think. Playing at 3840x2160, all settings on ultra, temporal AA on, all effects except Motion blur and Depth of field, are ON--RX-480 8GB; Windows 10x64 build 17760 (RS5), 16GBs. Vsync off in the game, set to to Enhanced Sync in the drivers. Frame-rate not great, but perfectly playable.

Also I was pleasantly surprised that the game would save my position as a saved game every time you quit the game--as well as saving it at the "checkpoints" (no spoilers). Am going to experiment with some lower settings just for fun to see what that does to image quality vs frame-rate. Like the game fine, so far...!

Edit: I also wanted to state for the record that the loading times are actually not bad at all--about 30-45 secs max when scenes change--I say this because I read a comment on the store page about "5 minute loads" and either the guy is running a dog-slow PC, and I mean *dog slow*, or he is greatly exaggerating. Let me see if I can supply a point of reference for comparison--if you remember PoE, then you know what a *slow load* of a saved game is...;) This game loads much, much faster. Also, this is from a standard 7200 rpm hard drive--not my SSD. I'm not going to move it there--the loads are fine from the HD so far.

Currently playing on a Nvidia 1060 (6GB) playing in 1080P on 'HIGH' setting, looking at Fraps I am getting 35-40 FPS which is ok and perfectly playable

I did note from my experience that I thought the game load times (start new or load from save) were pretty slow compared to the norm however
I am that guy and I wish I were making up numbers. Inxile have stated that there are a few systems with weirdly long load times so I am hoping there will be a patch incoming which solves everything, at which point I will happily swap to a better review rating. As it is I am running from an SSD. With 16GB of ram on a 980ti - processor is an i5 way over the recommended clock speed. No reason it should be running poorly at 800 x 1280 and the load times are indeed minutes.

As it is I will just sit and wait for patches, though I am glad it works for someone since I really want inxile to do well and be able to play the game without frustration.
aaaand - well now my irritation is just shifted elsewhere. I was determined to give it a chance, so reinstalled on another drive and it now loads in 15s or so. However, GOG doesn't allow editing reviews ...

Heh...wasn't singling you out...;) I felt like there had to be another issue there for it to take 5 minutes to load a game or a scene...;) Glad you got it sorted...that's a weird situation with that drive you have--sounds like it may be near the end of its life expectancy...! Major slowdowns like that also may be caused when the disk becomes too full and/or stuff may get paged out to the same drive, etc. But since you say it's fine on another drive I'd tend to think the problem is actually in that particular drive--if it's your boot drive you might want to back it up before it crashes for good...;)

I agree with you 100% about being able to edit your reviews once you make them--situations do change and I think GOG is not doing itself a favor by locking those away, as I think that 90% of the people who write those reviews negatively might wish at some point to change them to something more positive later--especially if they find that situations are not as they originally thought.
Disk load times is now the first item to fix on the patch list

Plus its going to take several patches to sort it

So must be a big issue for a lot of people , certainly for me leaving the Underground Adventures Guild inn to the camp outside takes minutes to load , its my biggest bug with the game
Hi,

i did read all the extremely bad reviews on steam from which half seems to be based on performance problems. People are stating that the game wont run on high end machines which i cant confirm.

Performance is not "great" but the game is playable on my 3 year old Asus Zenbook with all settings on "High" (Intel Core i7, 2.60GHz, 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M, 16GB Ram, Windows 8)

Framerate sometimes goes down and makes me a bit dizzy from time to time but that it. I did expect worse after reading the reviews.

Cheers

It... saves... when you exit?

Oh my ....! That changes everything! The save system really was the poorest part of the game for me, I spent 20 minutes yesterday trying to find a save point so I could QUIT THE GAME!

Thanks for that news :)

Not a review here either, I've not played enough for that, (obviously) but I too have the slow load screens (minutes generally to change areas) and looking forward to their patches.

I also noted *REALLY* bad FPS at some stage (from maybe 10 FPS to 0.001 FPS (Literally one frame every few seconds)

One thing to check is that FULL SCREEN is checked in your Graphics Options. Mine wasn't for some reason and it wasn't obvious since it appeared to be running a boarder-less window taking up the full screen real estate.

Enabling FULL SCREEN in settings fixed it up to maybe 25 FPS consistently.

Lastly, at HIGH or ULTRA Textures, I do get REALLY bad graphics half the time while I believe the textures are trying to stream to memory. A bit of a mess, but I still want to play!

He may have exagerrated but the essence of what he says is true. Attached is my PC stats and loading times are absolutely attrocious. It seems some people have this issue and some don't.

Yes! Just press ESC, and then select "Quit to desktop" and the game will put up a requester asking if you are sure, and informing you that your forward progress will be saved--but it's "not the same" as a totem save (not sure what that is supposed to mean, really.) When you restart the game, the saved game will appear in the load list of saved games as "most recent save" and you select it to reload and there you are...Much, much better than 100% Totem saves, imo.

Interesting--note that he said he moved the game to a different drive and averages 15 seconds, now--down from five minutes, and that he wishes he could correct his oriignal negative review about that. My loads run from 21 seconds to 45 seconds--I'm glad--and that's from a 7200rpm HDD--not my SSD. Hope their patch gets everyone who is having this problem squared away, though!
