I'm not getting any option to go down at the 2 portals on the map. I just get the "there is a portal down" text. Levitation on or off, NADA. Am I missing something?

Q goes up a portal, and Z goes down. If you don't have any levitation active (LEVI or MALE) you won't be able to go up the portal, and I'm pretty sure you would take some damage if you tried going down a portal without the levitation spell active.

Edit - You could always try to APAR your way down to the square below the portal, as a work around. It's not ideal, but it should work on most places that aren't teleport protected.
