... And they are HARD as feck! Seriously, tough stuff. Any helpful hints or information for noobs?

I found out exiting the game (without saving in the guild) makes you loose your gold, does it make you lose your XP and inventory items? What happens if you die?

I have a Warrior, Hunter and Paladin for my fighters. Then I have a Bard, and the two magic classes.

It's a fun game, just hard to get a good party built up.
I think characters are automatically saved when entering the guild.

Your party sounds fine.

My preferred party in BT1 is something like this:

1. Paladin
2. Hunter or Monk. The hunter's critical hit ability is bugged in many version of BT1, though, so Monk is a safer choice.
3. Bard
4. Magician or Conjurer. Develop to Sorceror ASAP. Then get high enough level to cast Wind Dragon (I think that was the name of the spell that summons an illusionary Red Dragon, which is a great asset for to the party for most of the game).
5. Magician or Conjurer. Develop to Wizard ASAP, but switch to the base class (Magician or Conjurer) he didn't start as once he reaches level 13 as Wizard, since you need less XP per level for the base classes.
6. Magician or Conjurer. Develop this one as an Archmage (lvl 13+ in all magic classes. As the previous character, he should end his career with a base class.

Note that the chance to hit enemies is based on your AC (not very logical), while chance to resist magic and special attack, as well as combat initiative, seems to be based on character level.

To get off to a good start borrow the Fire Horn from one of the pregenerated characters and give it to your own bard. You're all member of the Adventurer Guild, so what's his is yours.

Don't travel around town at night, since you meet touger monsters and more of them.
Thanks! That's some good advice. I am going to try your party formation. I didn't even think of getting the Fire Horn from a pregenerated character. I know that will help me a lot in combat.
