Loving this game, but played through the first few hours on a combination of "low" and "medium" graphics options on my c. ~2010 PC which made things playable, but looked very low-res and muddy. I envy those of you with newer PCs - I've seen some Let's Plays running it on Ultra which look amazing.
Eventually I decided to tinker a bit more as I appeared to be missing some important environmental details (like the ability to make out runes and such for puzzles), and I came up with a combination which I found much much better than what I was previously using, while still performing approximately the same, so I thought I'd share and spread the word.
I suspect I might be able to improve on this further, so suggestions welcome. But here's what I set under the Quality Settings options:
Texture Quality: Ultra
Effects: Medium
Foliage: Ultra
Shadow Resolution: Medium
View Distance: Low
Under Post Processing, I set Temporal AA as the Anti-Aliasing option and turned the other effects off.
YMMV, of course, but I hope this is helpful to my fellow gamers with older PCs! It made a major difference for me.
