Hoping I have not gone and done a noob here, but the crystal golem will not die, he just respawns after I kick his butt.....rinse and repeat.
I have the crystal sword, but at no point do i get a "use" opportunity with it.
Am I doing something wrong? Or is it maybe bugged?
Kinda getting frustrated now as killed him maybe 15 times already.
Anyways...any help would be appreciated

Try equipping the sword.

If that's not enough, try inflecting the killing blow with the sword.

(Apparently, this isn't necessary on classic versions; in fact, on the 2GS version I actually used Stone Touch to kill the golem, but the remaster may have changed the rule.)

In any case, the Crystal Sword actually is one of the game's better weapons, so it's worth equipping.

I have tried it equiped on all four of my frontline chars, I have had the killing blow done by the char with sword and I have killed him countless times now with spells and chars without the sword and STILL he respawns after he is killed.
Thinking it may be bugged, if so no idea what I can do about it.
Edit* on the third time of getting the killing blow with te sword it worked, no idea what is going on...but quest is done so onwards we go.

:) well at least you got the crystal sword.... i didnt pay attention to my inventory (full at the moment i killed the jabberwock thing) so i guess thats the reason the crystal sword didnt show up.... problem: the game wont give you another one, if you go back and kill the jabberwock again :))) ... so this party´s f#*xd :-)

I guess it's time to break out that hex editor. (Yes, that might be considered cheating, but I think that's justified if you are screwed over by a bug, especially if that results in a softlock like in this case.)

Also, the fact that the game won't give you another one should be considered a bug; if there's no Crystal Sword in the save file, whether in someone's inventory, the pooled party inventory (which, from what I understand, exists), or in Garth's, the game really should give you another one; otherwise, that's a rather nasty softlock.

And here we see a concrete example of why the "design change" in the remaster is just plain wrong.

well im still quite happy with the new design! i remember the original series to have been quite buggy as well... still i loved it these days (as prbbly evey1 here did). and i already love the new one. in my humble op the new streamlined ui, the inventory and the "grind reduction" just offer a modern aproach to this all-time-hall-of-famer without loosing the original feel... and i enjoy no longer drowning in graph paper trying to map every step by hand (and throwing it all away after having been teleported :))))
I had to have the character equipped with the sword deal the killing blow as of Patch 1.07. Monk smacking it killed it, but it regenrated. Archmages casting MIFI killed it, but it regenerated. Eventually, my Paladin was able to get the killing blow, and it stayed dead.

The original had a lot of minor bugs. It had no bugs where you got stuck being unable to complete the game. Even being trapped in a dungeon unable to get out (phase dooring into a place with no doors and running out of spell points, for example), you could die and get out that way.

In context, it should have been clear that the "cannot get items a second time" is the major error in the design change. While I'm not a fan of many other elements, they are not so clear-cut wrong.

Having now reached this point in the game, I tested this. In my testing, I can drop the crystal sword a moment before stepping on the crystal sword spot and get another. In fact, you can get another without dropping the first and collect as many crystal swords as you like. Possibly useful for the fight later where you apparently need to strike the killing blow with one.

The sword does not drop from the jabberwock but from the corridor behind him. To quickly get it, enter Harkyn's Castle, and then turn west and phase door through the wall, walk three forward, and there you are.
No harvesting of items. Game needs dungeon reset then. Similar to back in Oregon he c64 days of resetting old dungeons in Phantasie, wizards crown, etc.

Some encounters don't reset (I'm looking at you, 396 Berzerkers!) but I don't think I've run into any items that can't be re-attained by leaving the dungeon floor and then coming back to it. I've received plenty of Thor Figurines from Mangar's LVL 4, for example.
I figured out how to kill the crystal golem.

(1) Equip the first player in the party with the cyrstal sold
(2) Kick out any special characters (they will try to make the killing blow)
(3) When you fight, only let the character with the sword attack (everyone else defends)

After 100s of tries, this finally worked!

That's what I did...but...

Who says everyone else has to defend? They just don't get to attack...

Or, if the game acts like BT2 and BT3 in this respect, kill them and revive them later. This is another case where the removed intra-party combat feature would have been really helpful.
