I'm progressing through BT3, and my character's inventory is slowly, but surely, filling up with items from quests that my party has completed. Items like several keys and magic shapes from various realms (trying to keep things spoiler free). Is there some place to store these items, so you don't have to keep carrying them around? I get a message saying that they're too important to drop when I try to do so.
It's been so long I cannot recall from the original--but there are no banks in BT3, apparently, or you'd be using them...;) I'm still slogging along in BT2--haven't finished it yet!
You can either:
* Give the items to a party member you're not using, and leave the character behind at the refugee camp (most useful in classic versions, not so useful if you're playing the remaster without separate inventories)
* If you're playing the remaster, go to the stables in Skara Brae and store the items there (they're right near the entrance, and you can't miss the message that tells you about it)
* If you're playing a classic version, you can just drop the item if you're done with it. (The remaster goes out of its way to prevent this in order to keep you from being softlocked.)

*sheepish grin*
It's easy to miss if you don't actually go into that building...
This is moderately brutal in the Remaster in Legacy Mode with the Shared Inventory switched on.

I had hoped the shared inventory was just reduce the nuisance of inventory shuffling, but without per-character inventory, banking items on saved NPCs is limited to things they can equip. Luckily almost everything can be equipped, so I'm just creating one character per item with names like Silver Square. I may find out if there's a roster limit.

I *think* in the original Bard's Tale 3, you could drop items off in the abandoned cache in Skara Brae? Or maybe you could only collect stuff from there? My memory is very muddled because while I've bought it multiple times, I've played using modified disks the most where that cache was clearly full of nonsense (it had all the artifacts).

Actually, you could not drop off items there in classic BT3; you could, however, pick them up. This was changed in the remaster, where retrieving items there is now possible.

By the way, in the remaster, if you transfer a save with items in the bank to BT3, those items will appear in storage in addition to the default items.

Also, *SPOILER*:
Having all the artifacts (except one) in the storage happens as a normal part of the game; it happens as soon as you gain access to the final dimension.

Actually, Shared Inventory is the default, and it's Legacy Mode that lets you disable it.

There's also a bank where you can store items after paying a fee, 10 in BT1 and 20 in BT2. Items in the bank (except quest items) will transfer between the games if they're in the bank (and will end up in BT3's storage shed, as I just mentioned above).
