After a few times playing the game I run into the problem that I need to uninstall and reinstall the game for it to start again.

The "not starting" is that the game opens up to a black screen for a moment then I'm on desktop again and on the taskbar bards tale is running. When I click on that same thing again.

Anyone knowing about that one?


Almost forgot to mention chrome is not running at that time and wasn't started at all since system start.

downloaded yesterday and the game wont start. the screen turns black and the game hangs. there is a short windows message after starting, that the display properties are changed (resolution like somewhat 640x480, maybe for the original bards tale). the games task doesnt respond and has to be aborted.
i changed the resolution in the setup from preselected 1024x768 to my native resolution, but that didnt help. I didnt try uninstall/ install yet, but anyway it would be fine to play without the need for it.

System: Windows Vista, Phenom X4 965, Geforce 560Ti, No OC. The Game isnt installed on the boot drive.

launching the game as administrator and with Windows XP SP2 compatibility on worked for me (as someone suggested in another thread here in the forum).

Hi! I can't get it to work either. I double click on the desktop icon and just a black screen pops up. I am running it under Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, x64. I heard there was a problem with tha, maybe?

Kinda in the same boat. Whenever I try to launch, i get "Could not find a compatible Direct3D device. Remember, your graphics card must support at least DirectX Vertex Shader version 1.1"

Everything is up to date. I've tried launching in Windows XP SP3 mode...same error.

I put the launcher in Windows 7 Compatability Mode for all users. Not running as an administrator because if administrator is checked the game won't even start. With Windows 7 Compatibility checked the game starts and you get the black screen. However if you wait long enough the main menu with the book will start. You just have to give it a few seconds. I tried all other options and this is the only one that worked for me. I am running Windows 11.
