Just had this issue with the game: I was not able to start it. I click the game icon, my screen went black and poof, I'm back in windows.

I tried a lot of fixes, nothing worked. Then I made new windows account on my computer, and it worked. I think it has to do with special characters in the account name or something (i'm french, and I put é in it).

Maybe the dev will see this and fix it.

Same here. Umlaut seems to kill the game (ö, in my case). The game works on my laptop where there's no Umlaut, but it's not really playable over there. Would be nice to get this fixed and be able to play on my main PC.

A few people seem to have this issue

You could try and create a second account on the same PC without any special characters in it then run the game on that account?

(Control Panel \ User Accounts \ Creater user account)

I confirm the same bug, and solution.
I first tought the game wouldnt start because the cpu was below min specs, but i tried the trick to create a new user account without accents in the name and the game launches fine.
So i can hold on for a while more before getting anew rig, while hopefully this bug gets fixed soon.

The devs acknowledged this bug over on Steam forums and were asking for players to confirm that new usernames sans special characters worked. I suspect it should be fixed relatively quickly.
