Hi! I am playing Bard's Tale iv but have encountered a problem that has stopped me in my tracks. The game crashed out twice before now, but was okay when reloaded and I could play on. Until I reached Mangar, the first boss fight. The game crashes out on this fight every time, usually when Mangar throws a spell. Obviously I can no longer play at all as I cannot play this fight. I am using Windows 7, do you think that could be the problem? It was marketed as being suitable for Windows 7, though. Any help appreciated, I was enjoying the game up to then!
New info- after experimenting, the crashes always happen whenever the NPC magician character first gets hit by Mangar. So maybe a cut scene should happen then, but it crashes instead? Sometimes a box comes up afterwards saying something like "Lower level fatal error." Sounds serious! Anyone able to help?

Without you listing your hardware specs in detail, it's almost impossible to help you. I can say that with my system:

Win10x64, version 1903, build 18353.1; AMD R5 1600 @ 3.8GHz; AMD RX-590/480 8GB Crossfire; 16 GB's system ram (2x8GB 3200MHz), Adrenalins 19.3.1, I had exactly one crash in ~70 hours of play--and I've been through the Mangar fights twice without incident--if that helps.

I can only suggest that if you have installed it to C:\program files\Bardstale4\ that you reinstall the game elsewhere other than c:\program files\.
Hi Waltc! Thank you very much for trying to help, I appreciate it.

Sadly I am a computer dunce and have no idea what my computer specs are or how to find them, which is why I could not report this to GOG, as you need to give them the specs to talk to them at all. It doesn't let you flll in the form without them, a grave error in customer service in my opinion, as computer dunces like me are then left with no way to report a fault. I do understand that, as you say, without them it is very difficult to help me. I could at least have flagged the problem up to them though, in case it is a widespread problem.

Obviously I am not computer savvy enough to be able to solve this problem and will have to give up on the game, a great shame as I was enjoying it. Also a waste of money. Bother!

Thanks again for your reply, Waltc.

Thanks, Gydion. I did see all that there, but you are underestimating my fear that I will destroy my computer (and possibly the world) by inputting the wrong thing! Also if you do get through (I have submitted a report in the past- with some help!), they just ask me to do things that I cannot do. It is just too complicated. I am afraid I really do need plug and play, which, to be fair, is generally what I get. I really appreciate your trying to help, though.

No problem--everyone was where you are at one time or another...;) But I feel compelled to add this advice:

Don't press the Red Button! If you do...well, suffice it to say we won't be privileged with your company anymore!...usually, though, the Red Button rarely takes out more than a couple of city blocks--but my advice is Don't press the Red Button...;)
Ah, Waltc- They are all red buttons to me...!

Thanks again.

You are most welcome...wish I could have been of more help--but cheer up, as I mentioned, everyone was where you are now, including me, at one time or another! This, too, shall pass!
