I just finished my review of The 7th guest here on the game's store page (it's currently on page 10 if anyone's intterested) and since the space is limited I couldn't inlcude everything I wanted to say about the game. Since it's a couple of trivia items that some may not know I thought I'd post them here...

Did you know... Nintendo bought some (or all, could be it was just the cd-rom console rights even)) of the rights to console versions of the game. At this time Nintendo was still developing their infamous cd-rom expansion for the Super Nintendo/Super Famicom and they saw The 7th guest as a possible killer application that would encourage people to buy the unit. According to som figures going around the internet they paid as much as a million dollars for this which would have been an excellent piece of business for Virgin who owned the rights to the game. It just so happens that 1 million was the sum Virgin invested in the game so not only did they get a multi million selling game, they got the development cost payed by Nintendo.

Did you know... The game's creators, Graeme Devine and Rob Landeros, used to work for Virgin and in late 1990 they presented the idea for 7th to their employer. However, Virgin had recently begun to look towards the console market and at this time there wasn't really a cd-rom market to speak of so Virgin president Martin Alper was hesitant to say the least. Eventually he offered them a compromise: quit your jobs and start your own company and develop the game for Virgin. Virgin gave them a budget of 1 million dollars and more than half of that went into creating the graphics.
