Hey all...I noticed that GOG offers the original version of The 7th Guest, so last night I decided to download it. Am I missing something or is it the same version that I already had downloaded? Everything seems the same. Maybe I'm missing something or didn't download it correctly...Has anyone out there downloaded the original version of this game?

If you're using the Mac version, take note of GOG's changelog:
Patch gog-13 (08 January 2016)
We've uploaded a ScummVM-compatible Mac version of The 7th Guest that fixes an issue with the can puzzle not working correctly. We've moved the native Mac version to the bonus section until an updated native Mac version is provided.
The native version is in the bonus section on your gog.com gameshelf.

Other than that, it is the original PC version of the game.

Well, I noticed that both the piano puzzle in the music room and the infection puzzle in the laboratory are missing in the version I downloaded first. I was hoping this original version had those puzzles included. By reading around, it appears that the Mac versions of The 7th Guest do NOT include these two puzzles. Also, I was hoping the original version also included the title screen intro with the violin music. The version you downloaded on GOG just takes you directly to the introduction about Stauf and skips the title screen. So which version should I download? The newer updated version or the original version. It sounds like the original version was the first version GOG had released, if I understand what you said correctly.

Hey, I just figured it out. Think I had the two files mixed up. But both are working as they properly should. Thanks for your help.

Glad to hear. Have fun with this classic!
I do have a question...Not really a big deal, but the music quality in the later versions of The 7th Guest is immensely better than the original midi-sounding music. Is there a patch out there that I can use to replace the original music with the better sounding music from the newer versions? If not, it's not really a big deal.

To be honest, I don't know. The midi output immensely depends on the midi capabilities of your machine, but I've only experience with tweaking Windows machines in this regard. I guess you're playing GOG's ScummVM version atm and not the one labelled as Original within the extras. The ScummVM version includes the original CD tracks, that came with the original hardcopy version which should play at some point in the game. They sound very good! While other music in the newer version is replaced by good quality Mpeg ACC files, these original CD tracks are missing, so there's also a good side playing the ScummVM version. However I can't remember every detail of when and how music was playing, so I can't help much on this any further. I'm pretty sure you won't be able to get the Mpeg ACC sound files working with the ScummVM version, so eventually the answer might be no, there's no patch to get the new sound working in the old version.

Try the MIDI with a decent soundfont.
