Just wondering as I am contemplating purchasing it but am pretty sensitive about cruel or gory violence.

Keep in mind, this game was released in 1993 and what was considered "violent" then is tame compared to what we can watch on TV today. Overall, the game is a psychological horror story with very little gore or explicit violence. The few outright acts of violence the player does see are PG. If you are really worried about it, then I recommend looking up some YouTube videos to help you make a decision.
