I have just made the switch to Mac and am seriously considering keeping a PC purely for access to Tex Murphy.

I could go down the path of Boot Camp on the Mac which should work (I assume) but am wondering whether anyone has successfully run these programs from within VMWare or Parallels on the Mac?

I will gladly purchase either one of them if it gives me Tex on my Mac.

Thanks!

Tex 1 + 2 (Mean Streets and Martians Memorandum) as well as UAKM (Under a Killing Moon) , which I'm assuming from this post http://www.gog.com/en/forum/tex_murphy_series/uakm_jerky_sound is the DOS version, and Pandora Directive if it is the DOS version should all run perfectly under OS X because they use DosBox .

Note I have not tried any of this or ever run DosBox on a mac but it should all work:
You will have extract the game files by running the GOG installer on a Windows machine or in an emulator like WINE and then move the extracted files where they are accessible under OS X.
Then download the OS X version of DosBox http://www.dosbox.com/download.php?main=1 and install it. Then run the games using the .conf files in each game's respective directory and it should work.

You will have to use a virtual machine, boot camp, or a windows emulator to run any of the Windows versions of the games.

Thanks - I've just finished installing UAKM, TPD and TMO using VMWare in OSX.

The first two run fine and faster than ever but Overseer won't open without funky messed up screen. I have to use compatibility mode to get even that.

I'll see if there's some trick I'm missing out on.

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but are you trying to play these in VMWare or did you do what MrParmesan suggested, which is just using VMWare to install the games and then running them on the native OSX version of DOSBox?

Whoops, it was a stupid question then... :P

Different question for the OP: Which version of Windows do you have installed in VMWare?
I managed to install and run The Pandora Directive in Boxer on the mac. It runs perfectly. The method may work with the other games in the series since they also run via DOSBOX, but I have not tested it. It is a bit of a walkthrough, but - hey - you are installing a Tex Murphy game.

First, you need to run the installer. If you already have it installed on Windows just grab the game folder from there, if not do it through WINE. I used Wineskin, installed the newest engine (WS7Wine1.3.16, but it shouldn't matter for this) and the latest wrapper (Wineskin-2.1). Create a new blank wrapper, call it 'Pandora', run it, click 'Install Windows Software' and run the Pandora Directive installer from GOG.com.

Once the game is installed, right-click on the 'Pandora' wrapper in the Wineskin folder and select 'Show package contents'. Open the Pandora folder in drive_c/Program Files/GOG.com. Copy the file dosboxtex4.conf to your desktop.

Download and install Boxer, if you don't already have it. I used version 1.0. In Boxer choose 'Import a game' and drop the Pandora folder from before in the window and name it 'The Pandora Directive'.

Now locate the imported game in the 'DOS games' folder, right-click it and select 'Show package contents'. Then create an empty folder named 'D.cdrom' there.
Rename dosboxtex4.conf on your desktop to 'DOSBox Preferences.conf' and copy it to the folder replacing the old file.

Now the game runs from Boxer and you can delete the Pandora wrapper in the Wineskin folder.

UPDATE: Since The Overseer does not run through DOSBOX it is not possible to run it in Boxer, but Under A Killing Moon does work with the same method. Instead of creating an empty 'D.cdrom' folder, add the letters F, G, H and I in front of each of the .iso files. E.g. F UAKM1.iso, G UAKM2.iso etc.

Has anyone had any success running The Overseer on a mac in any way? Bootcamp, VirtualBox etc.?
Yeah, it runs on my 24" iMac on Windows 7 64bit in BootCamp. It has a Radeon 4850 HD gfx card.
Hmm...I've been trying everything on my new 13" Macbook Pro. 98, 2000 and XP in Virtualbox and 7 in Bootcamp. Did you do anything special to make it work?

Old thread, new post. Running Overseer in Fusion 5 on a rMBP doesn't work. I get an 'the VR room could not be loaded' error after the initial cutscene.

Any ideas?
