I'm having trouble getting UAKM to run properly. The video starts out fine, but turns extremely choppy after a few seconds. The game runs ok, but the videos are a pretty important part of it.
Anyone else having problems with this? Have any of you fixed it?
Specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate RC1
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P
Intel 9650 Core 2 Quad
4GB Corsair 8400
Geforce GTX280 (186.18)
Raid 0 Samsung HDDs
Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeMusic

I don't have any machine with win7 around to experiment for myself, but you can try the graphic mode setup tool that is installed with the game to see if any of the other graphic modes improve the videos performance.
Tried them all, no dice
But thank you for the suggestion anyway :)
It's Windows 7 x64, maybe that has something to do with it?
After trying the game a bit more, i don't think the performance in-game is all that great either. When walking around, there is some periodical slowdown, seems to happen every other second. Playing at 640x480
Two specific occurrences of slowdown in the videos:
-at the start of the intro, when seeing earth; when the two largest rings in the lens flare reaches the edges of the screen.
-just before the last letters of the Access logo starts swirling to the back of the big round "filmroll-thing-a-ma-jig" :)
Am I just being too picky? Starting to suspect it was always this way, but that i just don't remember. It is, after all, Good OLD games.

I get some choppyness aswell in the intro videos you mentioned. Specially the one with the Acess Logo. I don't know if it was meant to be that slow, but it feals real choppy.
All the videos after those 2 play fine, though.
Regarding the performance during gameplay (also 640x480), i also get some slowdons, and if i try to walk around looking up or down it gets worst.
Since i'm running XP SP3, i don't think the issues we're both getting are OS specific.
So, yes, there's a slight chance you're being too picky :)
But the game is great anyway, even if one has to overlook these little quirks.
Too Picky then! :D
I'll just have to put on my rose-tinted glasses and enjoy the magnificent Chris Jones.
Thanks for answering and settling that for me!

No problem :)
Hmm, guys, I've had this game ever since it came out and I think the access software video is actually choppy itself. If the ingame video plays ok , you should have nothing to worry about:)
I was also having problems with stuttering video/gameplay on Windows 7 x64. I solved it by edititing the Dosbox configuration to use a fixed number of cycles (90000). In my experience using max cycles in Dosbox isn't a great idea as the emulator tends to speed up and slow down all the time causing this sort of problem.

That sounds like a great idea! Would you please explain to a dosbox novice what/how to make that edit?

edit the dos box conf file in gog folder under program files/UAKM/tex config
[cpu]
# core -- CPU Core used in emulation: normal,simple,dynamic,auto.
# auto switches from normal to dynamic if appropriate.
# cycles -- Amount of instructions DOSBox tries to emulate each millisecond.
# Setting this value too high results in sound dropouts and lags.
# You can also let DOSBox guess the correct value by setting it to max.
# The default setting (auto) switches to max if appropriate.
# cycleup -- Amount of cycles to increase/decrease with keycombo.
# cycledown Setting it lower than 100 will be a percentage.
core=dynamic
cycles=auto
cycleup=500
cycledown=20
I just wanted to toss in that I used to own this way, way back in the day and my recollection is that the video was a bit choppy, especially if (like in the very first video) it's a completely full-screen video. I definitely remember the Access logo rarely playing correctly.
Tweaking DOSBox is always good, but I think in this case it's the game at fault.
I played Under a Killing Moon when it first came out and it's the exact same choppy it was then as it is now. Same spots and everything. It's the game, not your computer. Even the Youtube video of the intro confirms this.
