It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I click the play button on Gog Galaxy. The button darkens, but nothing happens.

My experience of trying to get this game to work:
Firstly, the installation files - if you download them directly using a browser, they will not work. You will get an error message telling you something like the files are corrupted.

Cannot get it to run on Win 10 PC
The game will not start when launched from Gog Galaxy.Nothing happens.
The game may launch from the exe file in the Gog.com/Overseer folder,
and ask whether to use FFDSHOW or not/ just this once/ always etc
If you choose "just this once" you may get into your game. If there are no other glitches the game will work the first time.
If you choose "not use FFDSHOW" or "always" the game will crash immediately.
Subsequently if you run the game, it will not launch from exe and will crash immediately.
If you decide to download FFDSHOW (either the 32 bit or the 64 bit ones), the game will still crash.
If you uninstall whatever version of FFDSHOW, uninstall and re-download and reinstall your game, choosing FFDSHOW once will get you into the game once in which both the movie and the in-game graphics will be distorted. Subsequently the game will crash whenever you try to launch it from exe file.

Conclusion: Based on what I read on the forums this game will never launch on Win 10 unless a big deal of tweaking is done. Don't buy it for a Win 10.

Can get it to run on XP Laptop:
XP Laptop does not have the specs to install Gog Galaxy.
Use Gog downloader to download the Overseer files from Gog.com, then transfer the files to laptop. Install the game.
(Note: if download the installation files using browser directly, during installation there will be error message that the files are corrupted.)
Ensure laptop has finished warming up (Kaspersky finished its tasks)
Open up the folder containing the exe file of Overseer
Double click on exe
A pop up window appears to show the other applications that are running, and Toshiba power modem is one of them.
Click continue to run the game.
I had gotten it to run fine in Win10x64...but cannot do it now...!

See my post

http://www.gog.com/forum/tex_murphy_series/got_overseer_dvdversion_working_wonderfully_with_quality_81x64_midi_outputfinally

...about 3/4 of the way down--game was running great--I remember I had used a version of ffdshow and set the exe as a DEP exception in 8.1--but in 10x64 I no longer had to do that...!

I'll keep searching--don't know what's happened--could be D3d change, GPU driver change, Windows 10 build change...don't know...

Dear Plumgas

Thank you for your suggestion.

May I know which dgvoodoo worked for you? Is it the olddgvoodoo or dgvoodoo 2?

dgvoodoo 2
thanks for posting these guides. Finally works on Windows 10 Pro on Surface Pro 4 (Intel I7 CPU with Iris 540 graphics). Installed GOG version "setup_overseer_2.0.0.21" (not galaxy). waltc MIDI guide works for music, plumgas dgvoodoo2 suggestion fixes black surfaces (e.g. curtains in Tex's office) and transparent surfaces showing up as black. The game looks and sounds fine. Got it fullscreen after alt-tabbing out and going back to the game.

Runs great for me in Win10x64 build 15063, without using dgvoodoo at all; but I am running an AMD RX-480 8GB card with the Crimson 17.3.3 drivers--d3d acceleration runs perfectly (which allows for a 32-bit color display.) Anyway, crucial is using the right version of ffdshow.ax--the original version in the game is a no go for Windows 10, you *must replace it*. Bing/Google ffdshow.ax 9/29/2014 and you'll find the correct version (on Source Forge, IIRC.)

Heck...I'd already made a post on how to do this earlier:

https://www.gog.com/forum/tex_murphy_series/overseer_running_great_on_win10x64_build_15046read_on_to_learn_how

I can't speak for nVidia cards, but for AMD cards--this is the second AMD GPU that runs the game perfectly for me under normal D3d--the original D3d implemntation of the game is vastly superior to the dgvoodoo method--but if you have a nVidia card you may *have to use* DG video, I really couldn't say. But if you can use this method it is by far the superior way to render the DVD version (GOG) of the game--and of course the CD version features comparatively awful full motion quality....;)
