pahootaman: What version of windows are on each platform? I have a laptop with Windows 8.1, before I spend all evening downloading/installing, wondering if I'm going to run into a glitchy game.
The laptop is Windows 8.1, the desktop is Windows 7.

Exact same problem here and listed by several as well at this link:

bigfinishgames.com/tmte-support-choppy-sound

I've shut off all of the other programs, lowered the visual settings to the minimum, I have vsync turned off and this only slightly helped the problem if at all. I reinstalled my drivers. Demo worked perfectly for me. Intro was beautiful. Are there any other potential solutions?

Specs are:

AMD quad core, 2.50 GHz
Radeon HD 6620 with 512 my graphics,
4 GB DDR
Acer aspire 5560 laptop.

Thanks

I'm downloading the GOG version right now, but I've tried the steam version and experienced this issue. I'm running the game on a modest notebook (with Intel HD Graphics 3000), but I find it really weird... the game runs perfectly fine when I lower the graphical settings, only the sound stutters. It looks like some sort of bug.
Same issue here on an Asus T100 game play very smooth but i have sound repetition...
This issue is in the process of trying to be resolved. The dev team is working hard to identify the problem and it will hopefully be fixed in a patch coming very soon! In the meantime we commend everybody for attempting to find their own solutions! We will keep you posted on our progress with a fix/patch for the issue.
I am also experiencing a choppy sound during the game play voice overs, not in the FMVs, which play smoothly. I guess it is related to my computer being relatively old.

There are two details on the sound, which might be interesting to the developers:
1) The music is not choppy, just the voice overs - "You have a fax" and everything Tex says in the apartment when the game starts, for example.
2) The voice overs are not choppy in the sense that there is stutter or no sound at all, but instead the voice overs are played twice, overlaying each over. So a particular voice over starts, and then it starts again half a second later, which gives it a weird choppy echo effect.

Edit: I just saw that the echo thing was already described on the big steam forum, so excuse this unecessary post :)

I was having this problem but sorted it out by turning off all sound enhancements for my speakers.

Right click on the speaker symbol on your desktop and select Playback Devices, double click on your default device and disable all enhancements.

Seemed to work as a quick fix, might help for others too.
Hi,

I got these sound problems on my laptop - Lenovo IdeaPad Z510 with Intel Core i3-4000M, 6 GB RAM, GeForce GT 740M and Windows 8 (64 bit). It doesn't matter if I change settings to low, medium or high/max with or without 2K video. Everything is ok except sound issues.

No issues on desktop:
AMD X8 FX-8350
16GB RAM,
Radeon HD 7950
Sound Blaster X-FI Elite Pro.
and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
Hi,
I am also getting this crackling sound on Tex's speech when he is describing items in his room etc.
I have tried all the suggestions of reducing the graphics features etc, but they don't seem to improve the situation.
I understand that this problem is being looked into, but that was in early May!

Is there any news of progress on this problem?

They have adressed this issue in the latest patch but it's hard to tell exactly what's causing this since they can't reproduce the problem exactly. The most likely cause however is that your computer isn't up to snuff. The developer has stated that the first main area (Chandler Avenue) is very large and very sound intensive. That held true for me as it is the only area so far (on day 9) with sound issues for me.

I have an old 2nd generation with Intel graphics, the graphics are a bit choppy (as expected) but the sound is crisp clear without any glitches.
I have access to 2 Laptops with 4th Generation core + Intel HD 4000+ graphics who have the crackling audio issue.

I am still trying to debug those 2 laptops (both are from Lenovo) and am with direct contact with one of the BFG developers. They are still looking into it, but they have NO machines that show this behavior in their company which is why it is taking so long.
On at least one of the laptops, changing the core affinity resolves the stuttering.
Please try choosing CPU0 and CPU2 for the game from the Windows Task Manager affinity menu and let us know if this solves the issue for you as well.

(On Windows 7 -> alt-tab out of the game, right click the taskbar, choose 'Start Task Manager', chose the 'Processes' tab, right click the 'TeslaEffect' Image name, choose 'Set Affinity', leave only CPU0 and CPU2 checked)

I chose "Set Affinity" and it said "The operation could not be completed. Access is denied".
Any ideas?

You probably need administrative permissions
A couple of days ago I finally downloaded this Tex gem. Though I don't have a NEW computer( bought 3 years ago) I was confident enough that I had all the requirements for this game.

I installed and started to play. Like almost everyone else here I also got this choppy sound and the 3d Graphics in the game was slow. The w.rst part appeared when I was asking Louie, and the others all the different topics. It was unplayable since both the sound and the Movie were "sh.."

So I looked here and on Big Finish games and read all the comments. I tried everything but nothing worked(the lowest settings etc).

I quited the game a bit sad and frustrated. Closed down the computer but I could not let it sleep, after an hour I started up again, did all the adjustments suggested. !! The game suddenly worked pretty well, so I went on playing for a while when suddenly the computer closed down by itself (game related)!!!! What the ,,,,.

Started it up again and started playing, and to my great surprice the game played perfect EVEN on the highest levels.
Since then everything is amoth as silk :)
Win 7 is a mystery..... ;)
