Downloaded Tex Murphy 1 & 2 but don't know how to set it up or which programs i need to run it

Did you install it? You don't have to worry about any other programs, just run the installer and follow the steps provided. After installing you should have both games' shortcuts on desktop.
Or do you have problems with launching the game? I'm sorry, but your post isn't very specific :)
Both games have graphic mode setup and you need to try and see which settings works the best for your system. If none does, try switching from fullscreen to windowed mode.

Sorry. I downloaded the game and now there is an icon on my desktop for setup. however when i try to open it, it asks me which program i wish to use for opening. I have tried all the options it gives me and yet i still can not install it. it tells me that it is an MIME file and i don't know what i need to do to open the initial file.

Installers are normal .exe files, so something is wrong.
Did you use GOG downloader or browser - if so, which browser do you use?
Another thing - have you tried simply redownloading?

Just rename that file on your desktop. For some reason the file downloaded doesn't have an extention on it. Just rename it and put ".exe" at the end of the name. Then you can run it normally and t will install just fine (at least it did for me).
