I am trying to play UAKM byt the screen tearing is pretty distracting and hard on my eyes. Is there any way to get rid of it? (change some graphical options in game, or maybe dosbox options?)

EDIT:
I found this in dosbox config file, will test.
[vsync]
# vsyncmode -- Synchronize vsync timing to the host display. Requires calibration within dosbox.
# Supported are off,on,force.
# vsyncrate -- Vsync rate used if vsync is enabled

Nice! Did you find a configuration that works?
I'm wondering about this as well.
I play it in 432x234 and have almost no tearing. It's also easier to play if the resolution does not change everytime you switch between moving mode and interactive mode.
Truth be told I got distracted by other games and by Tesla effect and did not investige, but perhaps someone else will check it and share his findings here.
I tried the VOGONS DosBox version but the game only was slower and ther still was screen tearing. It may be a little less tearing then before but not much.
I find the tearing to be pretty bad. It happens when I am on Chandler Avenue.

Is there nothing that can be done about it? I played this exceptional game on DOS many years ago and I have no recollection of such problem.
I have the exact same problem.

This game is unplayable for me because of the constant tearing that happens whenever the camera moves in any way.

I played this game on CD-ROM disc when I was a kid, and so I know that is not how the game presents itself when it is working as intended and according to its original parameters, which the GOG/DOSbox version certainly isn't doing!

Has anyone found a solution to this?

Real shame that I have this once great game, now made totally unplayable because GOG and/or DOSbox wrecked it somehow, and no one ever bothered to fix it back to its original state.

I also have the same exact problem with the GOG version of Tex Murphy: The Pandora Directive too.

For me the game is not exactly silky smooth either, but definitely playable, not in any way, shape or form different from what I remember playing this as a kid. A quick comparison to a Youtube gameplay video seems to be on par with what I've got.

Have you tried playing around with the DosBox settings? Maybe if you change the renderer it may make a difference. I use the Linux version but I suppose the folder/file structure is the same for Windows too - in the main game folder is the dosboxTex3.conf file, look into it and try changing the OUTPUT setting to DDRAW or OPENGL and see if that makes a difference. Make sure you save the changes to the file first before running the game again. Same for Pandora I suppose.

I had not tried changing the DOSbox settings prior to making this post, as I don't know anything about how DOSbox works.

But I just followed that suggestion and then I ran UAKM again.

Changing that setting had no effect on the problem. I still get massive screen tearing, and also all the objects in the world are shimmering & wobbling like crazy any time the camera moves.

I do appreciate you trying to help me with that quoted advice even though it didn't work.

I will be stuck not being able to play these games though unless someone else is able to post a working solution at some point.

Sorry to hear that this didn't help. I suspect this may have something to do with your graphics card/monitor setup and the way DOSBox handles that. I am guessing here but maybe try setting your monitor refresh rate to 60Hz or try switching off GSync/FreeSync if you have it and see if it makes a difference.

Is your sound/music choppy too or is it just the graphics?

Just the graphics are choppy, the sound has no errors.

The thing is, I had the exact same problems when I ran the game on a different monitor and with my integrated Intel iGPU instead of my discreet NVIDIA GPU.

So that leads me to think it's probably not a hardware issue on my end...or at least not one where the hardware is to blame directly.

To me it seems like an issue where the game is configured incorrectly when used in conjunction with modern hardware and/or OS'es.

I don't have Gsync nor Freesync.

Turning Vsync on or off has zero effect on this problem.

Well, I can't really think of anything else besides trying to play around with the various DosBOX settings and see what that may or may not do for you. Maybe also try to lower the resolution in the in game settings as was suggested above in this thread.

I would also suggest to try it running on a different system/computer if you can to see if it really is just your setup or it is the game in general.

As I've said before mine runs smoothly enough, although there is the occasional stutter/texture flicker when moving around, but nothing that I would call a deal breaker in terms of playability.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
