Hi all
I'm completely new to the Tex Murphy series but it sounds interesting, and I'm considering purchasing it. However, at 10$ each, I can't afford to purchase the whole shebang, so I'm currently wondering about which one I should pick up.

It looks like it's going to be Pandora Directive or Overseer... It seems to me as if people like the Pandora Directive the most, but on the other hand, Overseer looks like a technical improvement over PD (it was released on a DVD, after all) - and furthermore it's a remake of the first game? That sounds like a great place to start! Or?

I'm confused.

I would start with Under A Killing Moon. It's the third game, but the first one that uses the style that the rest of the games follow. While Pandora Directive is technically a better title, I always prefer to play through in chronological order, so if you get UAKM and really enjoy it, you can always come back for PD at a later time.
Under a Killing Moon is a great game in its own right, and establishes some characters and inside jokes that might seem out of place in Pandora Directive. It's a good place to start.
Thanks guys, I've gone ahead and bought Under a Killing Moon.

Now I just need to download it, but it's 1,3 GB and without the downloader, it keeps timing out -_-
My first text Murphy game was Pandora directive which I loved got me to want to play the others. So it doesn't really matter which game you start with. But if you want to go in order Under a Killing moon is good place or you can even go back to Martian Memorandum or mean streets.
My first Tex Murphy game was "Martian Memorandum" and while I think it's great game it was very frustrating and I had to start over a few times.

Like the others, I would really recommend starting with "Under a Killing Moon". Even though I also think that "Pandora Directive" is the best one.

By the way: The version of Overseer that GOG sells is the CD version NOT the DVD version.
Let us know how you like UaKM :) It's a classic.
I dunno....I guess I'm just an aberration.

I've always suggested starting with Mean Streets, since the series really does build up sequentially, and even UAKM has references to the first two games that won't really make sense to newcomers.

Of course, I'm also partially nostalgic since my introduction was when my dad brought home a copy of Mean Streets for me. At the time, the RealSound thing was revolutionary, though I guess it's pretty dated by today's standards.

Anyway, I guess if you just can't bring yourself to play the pre-FMV games, UAKM is as good a place as any to start.
