MiketheWino: I sincerely appreciate what gufino2 has accomplished with this patch, but I have some reservations about fixing something that ain't necessarily broken, only to find that by fixing it, I introduce new problems that can't be reversed by going back to the original install. I'd really like to enjoy the potential improvements the updated version could provide, so can you gurus put my mind at ease?
Here's the deal: the GoG CD version I'm running works okay (I originally downloaded it in 2009). The FMV is fairly pixilated, and on occasion the audio goes "doink" during conversations (that's the actual sound it makes...."doink"!), but the game runs without crashing. After looking at several posts since the "DVD" version came out, it looks like it might be, shall we say, somewhat iffy whether it will install and play on my system without a bunch of tweeks that I don't know how to do. Am I being overly worried for nothing?
FYI: I'm running Vista Home Premium 64 on a Dell XPS 630I with an Intel quad core 2.66 GHz CPU, and 6 GB RAM. My video is an NVidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti with 2 GB on board.
Here are some screen captures showing my game's current configurations, as well as a video capture early in the game showing the video quality, or lack thereof:
