Updates need to be posted more quickly, please. My boys can't play together right now because one has steam and the other the gog version.

that is my point...
When do we get the update??????????????????????????
[url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/content_update_terraria_13_89ddd/post123]posts explain the issue rather nicely.
How come steam can have the update but GOG NOT ? that means GOG is inferior to steam.

[sigh] Did you not read the posts I linked to? They explain that GOG will get the updates, but maybe half a day or so behind Steam, because 1.) with the Steam version, the devs have direct control over the game files, and can upload directly to users, whereas GOG packages all games, DLC and patches in their own installers, meaning they have to test them first (which can occasionally find issues with those patches that the devs themselves didn't realize existed, but takes a little extra time), and 2.) GOG is based in Poland, while Re-Logic is based (as far as I know) in North America -- probably the western U.S. -- which is several hours behind; in other words, if the devs (let's say they're based on the west coast) send a patch to GOG at 15:00 PDT, it would be midnight in Warsaw. Even if Support were working 24/7, the staff who do the QA testing and installer packaging obviously aren't going to be working that late. The next day would be the earliest one could reasonably expect them to issue the patch.

GOG have been pretty good about making sure the Terraria updates are out as soon as possible after they receive them, but if you're expecting instantaneous patch availability with no regard to time zones, you might as well go with Steam, because GOG is not going to be able to match Steam's update speed for frequently-updating games for a long while yet, if ever.
That post doesn't explain jack. PR talk from a mouth piece instead of real answers. The GoG person talks about time zones which has nothing to do with why steam gets updates faster then GoG. This is my first game here and all my other games are on steam. This is a test run for me with the whole Galaxy beta. Steam doesn't have much to worry about if they can't even give timely updates. At least not from me leaving.

If you're going to be a company then do it right or go home.

And how about my explanation? Any clearer? I don't know how much more "real" an answer you could want.

The time zone issue is not so much relevant to the patch files arriving at GOG as it is to GOG's staff being able to test & package them. They are not a multi-billion-dollar company with hundreds of employees working all hours of the day and night, you know.

Honestly, if an 8-20 hour delay in patch delivery is enough to send you into a rage, then Steam is probably a better fit for you. But if you're dismayed at how much control the various publishers and developers have over the games you buy through Steam and similar services, even after purchase, this is one of the tradeoffs of DRM-free. It is a minor, temporary inconvenience. Have patience. Even the mighty Steam wasn't built in a day. =)
Excuse me for aminute while I go pirate a game I already bought to get the latest update. GoG for the win.

I tottally feel you atm this sux so much :D:D:D:D:D:D
If you are a developer on Steam, you can update your files yourself and therefore release patches pretty much whenever you want. I assume on GOG there is some sort of manual process, because (offline) installers have to be created/updated, which can only be done by GOG staff. GOG Galaxy may be different and eventually become similar to Steam, however since the Client is still in Beta, I guess they (GOG) are not there yet. :)
One change that GOG should consider would be to add a notice to the download page that indicates that the developer has uploaded a new version that is awaiting testing and packaging for release.

At least that would acknowledge that a release is pending and make it clear that GOG has it in the queue to be processed for release. (And text to that effect could be included as well.)

From a purely competitive standpoint, even a 12-24 hour lag behind a direct competitor (Steam) is pretty bad when compatibility issues are affecting things like joining servers.

I am not sure how the "GOG system" does work, but I assume as of now no "dev accounts" do exist. They can't create the offline installers, they can't moderate their game-specific forums, they can't modify the game-specific landing page in the shop, they can't post announcements (other than regular forum posts) etc. Maybe this will change in the near future when GOG grows even more and/or GOG Galaxy becomes more advanced.
