tinyE: Is there any way to make notes on the map? I keep finding Crimson Alters waaaaaay before I can actually use them and I'd like to be able to go back to them later on without having to search the entire undergound.

Nesoo: I put a huge block of torches near things that I want to mark. It makes them stick out pretty well on the map when you glance over it later.

I have noticed that forges show up on the map as large blocks but that can still be easy to miss.

Me again, just looking for some advice.

I'm actually starting to progress and I've found I prefer going out instead of down but my current area is surrounded by 2 Crimson which isn't a problem enemy wise but I obviously can't mine anything in it. XD Would anyone recommend going way down to hell and getting enough Hellstone for a pickax strong enough, because I don't want to overshoot my bounds and find myself trying to mine an area that is WAAAAAAY TOO HARD for me.

Hell is the last stop before Hardmode. The Crimson (or Corruption in the worlds with that biome) is meant as the next stop after getting Iron/Silver/Gold gear from underground. The Jungle and Dungeon are after Crimson/Corruption and before Hell.

What you need is either lots of explosives and/or Purification Powder. Either of those will help you remove Crimstone blocks, which you need to do to smash the Crimson Hearths that are at the end of the "fingers" of the Crimson caves. Smashing 3 of those will summon the Brain of Cthulhu, which drops materials you can use to get a better pickaxe (capable of mining Obsidian, Crimstone and Hellstone, allowing you to progress in those areas).
