Hi all, recently I started playing Terraria, and I find it very interesting. I created a character and a world just to mess around and see what could be done, because I didn't wanted to play by a guide or the wiki. But now I'm too far in the exploring and I don't want to ditch the world, but I don't remember which size it is and also I don't remember the difficulty I set my character on, who now have a sizeable inventory and I don't want to ditch either :) Is there a way to see which size is my world and which difficulty is set to my character ?

To check your Character, well... if you are not particularly attached to it, just put everything you have into chests. Pick up some dirt blocks or similar trash, and then try to hug a zombie ;) If it is a Hardcore character, just create a newone and gather your stuff. Except for life and mana, there is no progression attached to the character itself, so if you secured your gear in a chest (do not just drop it!), you won't loose all that much if ist really is a hardcore char. Which is unlikely, since softcore (drop half your money on death) is the default setting.

To get the world size, just look at the filesize in c:\Users\<Your Username>\Documents\My Games\Terraria\Worlds\
Small worlds are around 2.5 Megabytes, large ones are around 10.5 Megabytes. I don't know about medium worlds, I don't have any.

I just made 3 new worlds to check their sizes, from small to large their sizes ended up as:

2617KB
5784KB
9988KB

This is obviously something that will vary with wiring, liquid and objects in chests, so a rough guideline for new worlds would be 2.6MB for small, 5.8MB for medium and 10MB for large.
As the others have said, you can easily find the size of your world. Make sure Terraria is closed while following the next steps. As for the character, navigate to "C:\Users\<You>\Documents\My Games\Terraria\Players\" and make a copy of your player in another folder. Then, open Terraria and pet a monster. If you still have your inventory (except for 50% of your coins), you are on softcore (easy). If you lose your inventory but are still able to play, you are on mediumcore (between easy and hard, medium). If you aren't able to continue, you are on hardcore. When you have done this, go back to the folder and delete this player. Then, move your backup back in again.
Thanks! I'll probably make another world, because yesterday I deleted so much 'junk' items like demon altar because I thought it's just a decoration :) Besides I haven't found yet how to make a chest or even how to open one, I found a lot but I've never been able to open them :(

There are many demon altars in the world. But how did you get one, if you can't open chests? But anyway, to open chests, you should just right-click them. To make one, you need two iron or lead bars and 10 wood. Then, press escape while standing near a crafting table, and you should be able to make one.
Finally made my first work bench and from there I go up the chain :). Oh and I opened a chest with an awesome Ice shooting sword so thanks to all and +1 for the help!

You should also know that you can simply use your pickaxe on any empty chest (as well as most other types of furniture, statues, platforms, etc.) to pick them up. I've got way more chests at my home than I'm currently using, and I've never had to craft a single one! =)

Yeah, I tried that on every single chest I found, but since I didn't knew how to open and loot them, couldn't get them. I haven't made a 'home' yet but it's a very good idea to gather all chests at one place :)
