During the intro video I noticed that the sound channels were reversed (it's especially noticeable during the first council meeting). I guess it's only a small problem but I wanted to see if I could fix it all the same. After some research into the issue I found a discussion on the dosbox forums about a possible bug with emulating the dos sound driver used by the game.

I've incorporated a fix into my custom dosbox build and I thought I'd share it here in case anyone else wanted to use it.

Here are the installation steps:

1. Locate your 'Terra Nova - Strike Force Centauri' installation folder. It should contain three sub-folders: CD, DOSBOX and TN
2. Rename the DOSBOX folder to DOSBOX_backup
3. Download my updated dosbox from here: http://www.davidwaltersdevelopment.com/tools/dosbox/
4. Extract the DOSBOX folder from this download into the Terra Nova folder.
5. Run the game from the usual shortcut and the sound should now be coming out of the correct speakers.

6. If you're running through Galaxy, it might revert this change but I think you can disable that feature on a per-game basis now.

Anyway, hope this helps!

Note: this doesn't fix the issue of the player weapon sounds being swapped.

Or an easier way is to just go into the game options menu by pressing the "O" key and reverse the stereo there.

That won't fix it - this is a specific issue with the way audio is generated during the FMV sequences. AFAICT the audio in game with both dosbox 0.74 and my custom dosbox is correct (with the already noted exception that the player weapons are reversed).

That is odd. I did notice the problem in the cutscenes, but my weapons are in the proper areas of the stereo field during gameplay. I also noticed my version of DOSBox that is bundled with the game is already version 0.74.

The weapon thing is really subtle, but I'm pretty sure the lasers do come from the wrong side with both stock install and on mine. I will double check that though.

Environment sounds like blowing up trees, etc. are fine, so the weapon swap is really just a niggle. I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I wasn't using headphones at the time tbh. Of course now I can't unhear it. Might be fixable though.
I first noticed the issue during the opening cutscene, but for me it's obvious that the entirety of the audio is swapped. If I stand next to a dropship and spin around, I hear it from the opposite speaker from the side of the screen it's on.

This is a known compatibility issue between DOSBox' Sound Blaster 16 emulation and some DOS sound SDKs. The only fix I've seen is to use unofficial DOSBox builds with a stereo swap setting in the DOSBox config. This is a pain, but I'll probably suck it up and do it.
Update:

It turns out this is a known issue in a long-standing VOGONS discussion on reversed stereo in various games in DOSBox: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=175588#p175588

ripsaw8080 posted a patcher that when run inside of DOSBox can patch the game's SB16.DIG sound driver to fix the issue: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=204889#p204889

For people's convenience, I just posted a pre-patched SB16.DIG file on VOGONS: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=934534#p934534

To use it, download the archive and extract it with 7-zip, then open your game folder and replace TN\SOUND\SB16.DIG with the one from the archive.
