i want to play the vanilla version of ToEE. whenever i open the ToEE shortcut it gives me KotB. i don't want to play that! i uninstalled desura and all CO8 packs to no avail. please advise.

You probably need the ToEE Front End to reactivate the original game.
May be easier to reinstall.

uninstalling c08 did the trick. just had to reboot the system
