You can avoid various problems with Vista by installing games outside of Program Files

The Co8 patch can be installed onto the GOG version. As stated on the Co8 website :

If you have installed patch 3 already or if your game comes pre-patched with Atari Patch 3, dont worry. It doesn't matter.
I am stupid I have windows 7 but still I am having hell trying to upload the CO8 stuff finally just said screw it even with the directions on the sight I can't seem to get it to work.

It always helps to be specific with the problem(s) you're having. eg won't install - won't run - it crashes ?

General tips

- make sure you're running Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 or above
- ensure you're running the latest version of Directx 9.0c
- install the game into a folder outside of Program Files
- run the game and make sure it works
- when you install the CO8 pack, right click the file and select 'Run as Administrator'
