Greetings fellow GOGers,

I have encountered an issue with Temple of Elemental Evil, and Arcanum that seem to be so rare that numerous google searches have turned up no one with the same issue I have with these games. I know they both use a very similar engine (ToEE apparently uses a modified version of Arcanum's engine), so it makes sense that the fix for one of these games will probably be a fix for the other.

In any case, for both games, I have strange behavior with scrolling in any UI element that requires scrolling. Whether it's choosing a feat for your character on creation or trying to scroll down to see what is all on the loot screen that I can grab, in both games the scrolling will either just flat out not work, or it'll take on a mind of it's own. My most recent memory is with Temple of Elemental Evil, so I will describe in as much detail as possible as to what is happening.

When I get to selecting feats/skills for my character in Temple of Elemental Evil, the scroll bar will either permanently try to scroll to the top, or to the bottom. Mouse wheeling up or down will only (very) temporarily alleviate the issue, but the auto scrolling issue is so quick that I don't get more than a few pixels up or down before the auto scroll kicks in and takes me in the opposite direction.

Using the arrows provided on the scroll bars do nothing at all.

I use Windows 7 64-bit Edition and have encountered this problem on two machines so far. I've tried unofficial patches, supermods that change almost every facet of the game, compatibility mode of various types, etc. Nothing seems to get the job done.

I did sort of fix it with an unofficial mod on Arcanum before, but it didn't fully remedy the issue, only made it occur less frequently.

It's a very interesting issue that I hope to solve soon as I've never played either of these games before and am really itching to dive in and add them to my list of completed games of my day.

Thanks in advance for your help and for reading my post.

Cheers!

Edit: Essentially, as soon as your cursor enters the area that can scroll up or down (a large list of options or items), and one attempts to scroll down or up either via the mouse or the keyboard, it will automatically begin scrolling up or down at a rapid speed and there seems to be no way to correct it. As soon as the mouse enters it just keeps scrolling and won't stop. This is the case for ToEE, and Arcanum behaves very similarly.

I have the same problem, although I am using a laptop with a touch-pad rather than a mouse. For me, if I drag 2 fingers simultaneously on the pad, it simulates the same up/down scrolling effect as a mouse-wheel would. Otherwise dragging 1 finger on the pad is like moving the mouse.

As far as I can tell, the problem with the slider bar in the various inventory screens is connected to the 2-finger/mouse-wheel actions. I "activate" the problem when trying to scroll the slider with my 2-finger drag (ie move the slider like with a mouse-wheel).

Solution: Don't use the mouse-wheel ever in this game. I am also able to both "activate" the bug, as well as "deactivate" it with a combo of movements where I try and click-drag the slider while simultaneously using the mouse-wheel (although I can't tell you specifically how I did it, although after fiddling with it for about 5 minutes, I have now managed to "solve" the problem and then re-introduced it again twice by this method). I've got it working properly now, so I don;t want to mess with it again, since I am not quite sure exactly how I did it. Anybody who figures out exactly how to trigger this might share their discovery.

EDIT: It also appears that exiting the game to desktop, then restarting and continuing from where you left off fixes the bug. Just don't use the mouse wheel after that.
