I remember when it came out, ToEE had a reputation for lousy performance.
The laptop I'm attempting to play the game on is not a gaming laptop, but is still more powerful than a 2003 computer. I have Win XP SP3, Pentium T4500 dual core @ 2.3ghz, 4gb ram, Nvidia GT320m video. My account is a local admin.
The main symptoms are slow responsiveness or lagginess in the UI. I hate hitting Esc to bring up the save menu. I hit Esc and then have to wait about 2 seconds for it to respond, but it feels much longer. Map and Journal are quicker but still a bit of a delay. If I click the ground to move my party, there is about a 0.5 second delay before the position circles appear on the ground. Zoning also takes a long time as it can take 5-10 seconds to load an area, even if I've already been in that area recently and the area is small (example: go to shop, leave, remember something I had forgotten, go back into shop).
In some dungeons (recently in the Moathouse) I also get terrible framerate (probably <15fps) in spots.
It is seeming like a lot of the lag is sound related. For instance, if a sound effect is playing, and I hit ESC, the sound effect finishes before the menu comes up.
I installed Co8 modpack to see if the bug fixes helped any with performance, but the performance is unchanged.
I've tried searching, but the majority of the performance-related info is from when the game came out, and I didn't see anyone else reporting this issue on the Gog forums.
I'll try some things with the sound, but wanted to see if anyone had some ideas/thoughts/experienced the same thing.
