I'm gonna throw out some love for Icewind Dale, which I've always liked.

Part of what I like to play depends on whether I'm on the desktop or the laptop. I find IWD and BG pretty easy to manipulate with a trackpad, whereas TOEE is a little bit trickier IMO.

Hopefully BG 2 comes sooner than later.
Just wait for BG2! I consider it as the best, but it follows 2nd edition's D&D rules.

DeviantLorax: I'm shocked and somewhat disappointed to find that nobody has even mentioned Darksun: Shattered Lands. it's a good one.
I *loved* Dark Sun 1 and 2. They're not on GOG though, which is probably one of the reasons why no-one has mentioned them. Another one might be that they're quite old. The engine that they're based upon was developed as a step-up from the old 'Gold Box'-games, but this was in turn overshadowed by the Infinity Engine which powers BG etc. Shame really, and a shame no-one ever made D&D games set in Athas again.

Zerotown: I *loved* Dark Sun 1 and 2.
These two games had two crucial flaws: (1) no resource depletion - seriously, was it so hard to incorporate hunger and thirst? I mean, Enchanter did it in 1983, and (2) dumb level caps which made heavy multiclassers rule and single-classed characters suck. The DS2 I had was also buggy as... something very buggy, though I've been told it's all fixed now.
