I have played bg1, 2, icewind dale 1, 2, planscape, nwn 1, but none in my opinion have as many possiblities as this game. Its probably because of the turn based mode which because of it, Each class has many more possibilities. Gog gets props for this game.

A few questions i have....
1) Do the advanced attacks like trip attack and coup de grace have any effect overall or are just a waste of time depending on the class?

2)I have 3 main characters and i might add 2 side characters at most to give me more manueverablity. I have a barbarian as a tank, a cleric as a partial fighter/healer and buffer, and a bard which i want to dual class into a rogue. The bard is the most important class i have because i want to have a class that can talk to people, fight, sneak attack, and cast spells that aid his allies and disable people. I was thinking of getting my class to bard 6/rogue 4 as rogue levels arent as important + rogue gets uncanny dodge at lvl 4 which is good. Would this be feasible or should i dual class at another level? I know this is a weird combination but i like it.

3)I know what flatfooted is, but i dont know how you get it. I want to know how one puts another in that state to sneak attack as well as why alot of my characters are in that state when the game fighting starts. What atttacks put your enemy in that state?

If anyone knows, i'd be grateful.

Coup de grace lets you kill disabled opponents, If you cast sleep on a enemy and he fails the save then you can use this to kill the victim right away regardless of hitpoints.

I've never used trip but I believe it makes your target drop to the ground (becomes prone). Standing up from prone provokes an attack of opportunity from all enemies who are able to do so (in range, have available attacks of opportunities, etc) and uses up a move equivalent action.

You are flatfooted before you take your first action. So if an enemy wins initiative he can attack you and get all the benefits of attacking somebody who is flat footed. Once you take any action you stop being flat footed.

Thanks for the info. Still does anyone know if there is a faq or guide for dual/multiclassing in toee. I know all about dual classing from other games, however temple only allows you to get to lvl 10 which changes things. Has anyone tried a bard/rogue?
Coup de grace is extremely useful for certain types of enemies. Particularly the stubborn kind. If it pleases you, I can go into more detail. As for multi-classing, that's never been my thing. I beat the game without it. If you use the Circle of 8 mod, the level cap is extended to 20. The mod also has more content, so I suggest checking it out.
I dont really want higher lvls so to say, i just wanna try something that no one really tries. The bard/rogue would be a good idea since they mostly share the same skills and it would be a great backup fighter that can disable enemies as well with spells.
Go ahead and try it. My only beef with multi-classing is that you'll have someone who is lvl 10 but more like lvl 5 bard and lvl 5 thief (if you split the classes equally). So you'll have less spells and won't be able to achieve the highest lvl of spells that a lvl 10 bard could. You might want to try favoring one class over the other.
That is what i am thinking of doing. Bard 6/ Rogue 4. Rogue 4 makes it so i cannot be flatfooted (which i hate), and get some sneak attack damage and other skills plus evasion which rocks too. Bard 6 is good for lvl 3 spells which is fine since he is not meant to be a full time caster, he is meant to be a specialist in 2 things-fighting and spells. Bards arent great mages because the spells they get dont compete with mages, but..bards have much over the mages because they have higher health and can fight decently. Mages in my opinion dont compete because they will die if you look at them the wrong way when they are lower level and they are very fragile that i dont have the patience to coddle them.
6 rogue/4 fighter also works nicely since those first few levels you need high skills to get traps and unlock things, but by the time you're level six you've likely got nice Gloves of Dex (possibly +6) to overcome any gimping on thieving skills, and it's nice to just have a more capable fighter around.

Also, though I'm no expert, I just like the game, I think the trip attack is mainly the monk's bread and butter since he gets a feat where he doesn't draw an Attack of Opportunity for attempting a trip. I think for a guy carrying around a great sword it's better to skip the fancy stuff and just go straight for the kill.
