None of the starting gear or available to purchase stuff appears to contribute anything to my armor class. I'm still in hommlet, but is there any point in wearing gloves, boots or helms. The manual only mentions chest plates and shields in terms of AC.

Thanks

Unless it's a special item, the regular clothing is just decorative. Of the mentioned regular equipment, only body armor and shields affect AC.
