Hi there,

I bought the game (always wanted to play it) and didn't install the Co8 patch. Created my party (Paladin-Pelor, Cleric-St Cuthbert, Mage, Rogue). Everything was Ok.
Then I noticed that when I used the Paladin's Smite Evil ability nothing happened: I just lost 1 melee round!

So I installed the Co8 patch hoping that will fix it (I started all over again). But no, the Paladin's Smite Evil ability just doesn't work, I just lose 1 melee round and that's it.

Funny enough, my Cleric with the Destruction Domain has Smite as a Special Ability and it works well!

Does anyone knows a way to fix this? Thanks a lot!

From personal experience, I've found that the Smite Evil takes a round to use, then the actual extra damage goes on the next attack you make.
Mmmm...I think that's not the case. According to the DnD Core Rulebook (3rd Edit.) Smite Evil is part of an attack. Besides, the Cleric's Smite Ability works on the same round you use it.

Well, that works for me, so I don't know how to help you.

Just because the Rulebook says it doesn't mean that it was implemented the same way.
Well, that's true. Thanks a lot for your opinion.
Well, the first thing that comes to mind is that the target of your smite might not be evil. Smite just adds damage, Smite Evil adds damage against evil opponents. You should be able to test this out by casting Magic circle against evil. Anything with an evil alignment can't enter the area without making a save.
