Still have the install I did:
jre-7u67-windows-i586.exe
Wrapper: Wineskin 2.5.12 Engine: 1.7.14
The java version is likely the important part.

I confirm for OSX installing first JRE 1.7 in 32bit worked. Using JRE 1.8 did not work

"Show contents" of the app. Drag and drop JRE 32bit installer and the MOD installer into a custom folder. Then use wineskin "advanced mode" to change the exe destination in combination with the "test run" button to install JRE and the the mod. The mod install destination has to be adjusted to the GOG install folder of the game inside the app.

You then start the game via the so called "toee front end" exe - which is a GUI app added, that allows you to activate the mod ( "/GOG Games/Temple of Elemental Evil/TFE-X.exe" ).

Don't forget to remove your installers again once done.

htown1980: I have put this together to hopefully explain how to install the Circle of Eight mod to Temple of Elemental Evil to people who are as useless at I am with macs. There may be better ways of doing this, but this is the way I did it. Hopefully it works for you too.

Step 1: Download and install Temple of Elemental Evil.

Step 2: Download the Mod. You can get it here:

Standard Edition:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/circle-of-eight-modpack/downloads/circle-of-eight-modpack-800-standard-edition

New Content Edition:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/circle-of-eight-modpack/downloads/circle-of-eight-modpack-800-new-content-edition

Step 3: Open the Temple of Elemental Evil package [right click, show package contents].

Step 4: Copy the mod file from your downloads folder to the Temple of Elemental Evil package (something like Circle_of_Eight_Modpack_8.0.0_New_Content_Edition_Setup.exe). I put it in the folder “drive_c”. The file should be about 500mb.

Step 5: Download a java runtime environment. I got mine from here:

https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

You want the windows version, not the mac one.

Step 6: Open the Temple of Elemental Evil package [right click, show package contents].

Step 7: Copy and past the java installer from your downloads folder to the Temple of Elemental Evil package (something like jre-u55-windows-i586.exe). Again, I put it in the folder “drive_c”.

Step 8: Now you need to install java. Double click on Wineskin. Choose Advanced. Next to Windows.exe click browse. Select the installer (something like jre-u55-windows-i586.exe). To install the program, click “Test Run”. Follow the prompts.

Step 9: Once java is installed, you need to install the modpack. Next to Windows.exe click browse. Select the installer (something like Circle_of_Eight_Modpack_8.0.0_New_Content_Edition_Setup.exe). Again, to install the program, click “Test Run”. Follow the prompts. Make sure you install it in the right folder.

Step 10: Once the modpack is installed, you need to tell wine to run the Temple of Elemental Evil Front End. That is call TFE-X.exe. It should be in the Temple of Elemental Evil Folder.

You can click “Test Run” and hopefully it works. Close down the folder and from now on, when you double click on the file, it should run the Temple of Elemental Evil front end. You can then choose what options you like (such as increasing the level cap, maxing out hp increases, etc) before launching the game.
I hope this explains it and I haven't missed something crucial.

Big thanks to Gydion for patiently explaining to me, using small words that people with low intelligence can understand... :)
Hi, in order to make this idiot proof (for this guy I know...ahem!) you need to clarify step 10...or maybe everything. I'm (I mean this guy I know) has tried both methods on this forum and on the CO8 forum to no avail...it keeps saying I still need Java 1.6 (has tried 1.7 & 1.8 already) or better. This needs to be more detailed for this guy I know to understand. He needs to know EXACTLY what folders things need to go to. He needs to know EXACTLY what Java version to get. Questions like: Are you referring to opening Winkeskin in the TOEE app itself or downloading Wineskin and making a new wrapper? On day 3 of trying...brain....smoking.
...still keep getting the same msg that I require Java Runtime Environment 1.6 when I test run the TFE-X.exe

Followed the the instructions above...anyone else have the same recurring issue and did something that wasn't explained in the step by step process above to get it working?

Its been so long since I have done this but I will try to help you out as best I can.

You downloaded the java installer?

You copied and pasted the installer into the TOEE package?

Did you run the installer?

What happened when you ran it?
Thanks so much for the help, I need it.

The result is the same every time following the instructions to the letter. The test runs go through without apparent error. The end result is a pop-up msg indicating that I require Java Runtime Environment 1.6 after the final step of test running TFE-X.exe or when I launch the Temple of Elemental Evil app.

Just to confirm, to get to the C: you refer to in the package contents. The correct path is:
Right click Temple of Elemental Evil icon in applications folder (show package contents) click Contents/Resources/Game, right click on Temple of Evil icon again (show package contents).
Then paste these files to the folder labeled "drive_c "

I've downloaded Java jre-7u71.exe
I've tried other ones as well with the same results...7u25....7u51...7u80.

When I test run Java, the default open location is putting it in C:Program Files. Should I "change folder" to something else?

How about the mod pack? Should the folder be changed to a specific folder when I do a test run for that too?

Also, step 10 is simply just test running the TFE-X.exe after the Java, then the Mod. So basically I just test run 3 things in a row in Wineskin. Correct?

And when I mean Wineskin, I mean the Wineskin that is in the Temple of Elemental Evil application itself. Not a downloaded version of Wineskin. Otherwise I've been using the wrong Wineskin.

It sounds like you are doing everything right.... I will try again sometime in the next few days and get back to you.
Sounds good, thanks again for the help. Does anyone know if installing Java is still required to install the mod? I've been seeing some places on the internet where they say it is not required.

I successfully installed this mod on my mac earlier this year (at that time I was using a late-2009 iMac, OSX 10.9). I used the latest Java JRE from oracle.com, not the older windows versions 6 or 7.

For more detail, I used the steps here:
http://www.gog.com/forum/temple_of_elemental_evil/a_step_by_step_instruction_for_installing_co8kotb_on_mac

Here are my comments from that thread:

I got this to work following the instructions in the OP (except with the directory changes noted in post 8, also I used "Test Run" to run the modpack instead of "Install Software").

I used the latest jdk-8u73-macosx-x64.dmg from oracle.com, I did not have any luck running the windows JRE versions 6 or 7 using the wineskin within the ToEE app (I got error messages related to winbind).

Your method seems to have done the trick, although now after activating the module and I load up the game, it freezes on "Initializing sector data" in the Temple of Elemental Circle of Eight loading screen. I've tried tinkering around with the screen resolutions to no avail. Did the anti-aliasing and scaling thing. No doubt I caused a catastrophic series of events by doing so that requires me to start over...ideas?

After looking into it, apparently the problem is about the movies. Now just after it Initializes Sector Data it crashes to desktop....I've tried what they instructed online. Renaming the movie folders, moving the movie folders, deleting the movie folders, taking the movie folders out for dinner and drinks.

Going on week 3 and starting to feel like I'm playing The Never-ending Story...the Game. (GOG $9.99)

Smart, I'll try.

Perhaps Gog changed a bit the ToEE Mac Package because the structure is more complex that quoted in this post.

There's the first package installed by Gog. The Temple of Elemental Evil.app
Inside this package another package: The Temple of Elemental Evil.app/Contents/Resources/game/Temple of the Elemental Evil.

Open this second package too with show content, and here is the drive_c link and Wineskin quoted in the post.

The method describe by htown1980 (quoted just above) won't work as is.

It requires install java inside Wine and that's very tricky if even possible on Mac. I spend hours to try, finally achieved install open jdk 7 for windows. With command line tool, it runs fine. But still after the install of the modpack I have a message requesting java 6. This is quite weird because the tool using java (tfe_x) provides a FAQ quoting it is working with open jdk 6 and 7.

But reading this FAQ I quoted mention of the tool tested on many OS including Mac. So I just double click TFE-X.jar (in drive_c then GOG Games/Temple of Elemental Evil). The tools launch fine, did init install fine, it allowed activate the modpack and it's install run fine.

From that I have a Run game button which obviously won't work from Mac. I'll only need find how this tool launch the game to see if it really worked which would be a bit miraculous. :-)

Frankly if I knew I would spend all this time to try install the modpack, I would have skip. But now I'm in, I'll try finish this last test. If it works I'll provide an update pf the install for mac provided by htown1980.

EDIT:
So it's a fail, the java application is launch by an exe, and this is this exe request java 1.6. The only java clearly installed fine was open jdk 7. I found a java 6 but just unzip (no installer) seems not enough for Wine.

For launching manually the game with the right parameters from the front end, this seems quite hidden and non documented, and I suppose it's not traced in console. I don't get why they didn't used a config file.

What's sure is that I really get a ToEE with co8 because it's quoted in welcome screen. So that's hard to believe but the front seems have installed everything fine despite launched from Mac.

EDIT:
Oops seems the front end generate a log, no error but the launch command of the game is traced.
bla blah/toee.exe, -maxlevel:20 pretty simple and manageable with wine.

So it seems be a win, I can't believe it, I think the guy that did the front end is a quite clean coder as there's few. To confirm it's a win and there's a quite simple way to install the mod on Mac, I'll play this modified game this WE to see if it seems ok.

I played some hours with co8 New Content, and now play with co8 Standard even played even more hours. It seems work very fine on Mac.

I have post in co8 forum a description of the method install (including versions used), it's rather simple if you are a bit used to wineskin:
