Did anyone else feel kinda gimped playing an evil party in this game? I sure did. It seemed as if there were no quests to do 'bad' things (not counting the opening vignette). Only good guy quests. Not even bad solutions to the good guy quests. Admittedly I have not played very far yet as this sort of turned me off.... but from what I have heard and read this doesn't seem to change much. I realize that ultimately we are supposed to be the heroes that save the day. That's pretty standard in most RPGs.... but even in Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, Torment, etc., there were a lot more options for evil parties. Sure, there were some harsh consequences for being evil, but that was fun too. I have to wonder why this game is so anti evil.

Does the game get better for evil characters later or are we bad guys doomed to hugging bunnies and running errands for old ladies?

Since I don't know how far you are, I will try to avoid spoilers. Maybe in the "grand scheme" of things, the game slants more towards good options being available (saving people, etc). Hard to know. But you will bump into times where you can be a menace, and other times that are at least gray areas. There's some evil intrigue.

To be honest, I think GOOD gets the short end of the stick. You get EXILED from paladinhood if you partake in a drinking contest...

Lol, yeah, I heard about the paladin thing. I'm not very far right now. Clearing the moat house, which is rough going since I've avoided doing the good guy quests which means I am low XP right now.
Last time I Played I made it to the temple and didn't remember much bad guy stuff then either.... but that was a very long time ago. I guess I'll keep plugging away and see what comes up. I just don't want my group getting any 'goodie two shoes' reputations around the towns. Otherwise I'd say screw it and do all the quests.

Are you using the Circle of Eight mod? They have a starter quest in Welkwood Bog that's an alternative to doing the starting "fetch quests".

You are very early in the game, so other than the opening vignette, you just haven't gotten to the evil stuff yet. Hommlet is a LG town, so at least on the surface of things, that is what you see. There are plenty of non-quest-based evil things you can do in town, such as pickpockets or hire some henchmen only to get them killed and loot their stuff. Some NPCs are shady characters, and all in Hommlett is not neccesarily what it seems....

As you progress further through the adventure and travel closer to the heart of evil, you will see more and more options for choosing sides. There is definitely an "evil" option to ending the adventure, plus plenty of naughty things to do and people to betray if that is what you are looking for.

Much of the fun of ToEE is the sand-box nature of most of it... yes there is a narrative to follow, but you can also just chuck the narrative to the wind and play pretty much how you like.

A small checklist of evilish things to try (WARNING MASSIVE SPOILERS, DO NOT READ FURTHER ON YOUR FIRST PLAYTHROUGH):
1. Pickpocket magic items and scrolls from all major NPCs.
2. Help the spies in Hommlett.
3. Convince Lareth to join your party, then go to town with your lvl 5 cleric ally. Retire Lareth as a merchant in the broken tower.
4. Have fun at the brothel.
5. Become a murder-hobo and kill off Turgon/Rufus/Burne/Mother Skreng/Otis, etc.
6. Get recruited in Nulb to join forces with one of the elemental shrines.
7. Leave the various prisoners of the temple and nodes to their fates.
8. Use Dominate spell to join any NPC you like to the party (try dominating some of the HL evil NPCs for some interesting surprises).
9. Defeat or join the greater temple.
10. Kill (to keep the artifact for your own use) or join Zuggtmoy.

It seems, evil characters always get the short stick in Forgotten Realms games.
