I have gotten the Grim Reaper way back when it was introduced, now whenever I decide to clean restart the game, it is still in my ship selection inventory, and it multiplies. No matter what I do it remains and is grows in number.

That is a known bug that was already reported to the developers but wasn't fixed yet in version 1.7.3 that wasn't even released on GOG yet (I hope it will though). While it is not game breaking it is definitely annoying.

As for the ship being available from the start, that is because of the DLC. As far as I know the DLC is like paying for premium on the android, granting the ship. The Grim Reaper isn't as strong as being broken at the beginning however having the ship prevent the Grim Reaper quest to pop up.

Wouldn't be a bad game just the developers should care a bit more about it.
