After quite some fiddling, I got the game to run via Lutris. In case anyone else has problems (videos not playing), here are the things I think are important:

1. install the 64bit version from gog in a 64bit wine prefix
2. runner was lutris-GE-proton7-28_x86_64, System Options -> disable Lutris runtime !
3. install the following winetricks: ffdshow l3codecx directshow (or select "all video codecs" in the lutris winetricks install window)


I did various other things, not sure if they are necessary:
in wineconfig, set system to windows 7 or windows xp
... (the rest I forgot)
