Hey guys, finally got around to trying this awesome game out. Want to thank those of you who answered some of my questions about it, during the sale recently.... that definitely encouraged me to move it right up to the top of my "To Play Next" list.

Okay, here's the deal. I installed the game with Ashes of Urh'Rok (haven't installed Embers yet, but probably will after my first run ends). Thanks to all of your guys advice, I created a Human Cornac Berserker, and "Normal-Adventure" modes for my first run, and much to my surprise, I am still alive @ level 29! I have died 4 times though, and TBH, that's because I really didn't know wtf I was doing for the most part, like how to properly use my infusions, retreat, heal, and *then* re-engage ( or just run, and GTFO!). Also, I finally learned the hard way to "inspect" my enemies for talents and weaknesses....live and learn right? Or in my case, die and learn :D! As you guys mentioned, I can in all honesty say, that none of my deaths were unfair, and I did indeed learn from them. In short, I am enjoying the shit outta this here game!

Okay, now a couple questions. While trying to clear the Last Hope Graveyard, to find out what happened to Celia, I encountered Zubybretha the Eternal Bone Giant. He is one bad mofo. I was able to escape him tghe first time while at about level 25, by retreating back up the stairs, after being able to do practically no damage to him at all. I attempted again just recently @ level 29, and just was able to get him to zero health, after using a freezing ruin on him, then pummeling him with everything I had again, but alas he "reassembled" to full health, and as my health and stamina were finally depleted, I once again had to retreat. A quick online search finds that many ppl find him unbeatable, and can't complete those particular quests in his zone, and some posts show him as bugged, and regenerates several times, instead of just once, as the talent description shows. Anyone have any experience with him, and possible advice? At this point, I guess I will head back to Dreadfell and try to clear that, and try to get my character's stats up some more (or die trying :P).

Also, I see a recent update came out for ToME. Like Titan Quest, it seems you have to download the whole installer (as opposed to a smaller update patch), and re-install the entire game to obtain the update. What is the best way to do this? (I don't use galaxy btw) Should I just wait until I am done with my current character's run before updating to be safe? Also, do I have to uninstall ToME before installing the new one, or can I just install it over the existing one with no problems?

Thanks!

Getting to level 29 on your first run is damn good! I think I only got a few levels in before I got destroyed on my first run, so kudos for learning the lessons I steadfastly ignored. ;)

Last Hope I'd recommend putting off on finishing until a little later as its harder than it looks. The level recommendation on that place is deceptive as that's the minimum level of the boss (I think?), but the extra enemies are way higher level than that. That's also why you're doing the right thing by opening the coffins before going into the big chamber, as otherwise they'd all spawn behind you and you get curbstomped - unless you've already got a really strong build. The Bone Giant can be especially tough for your kind of character, as it's basically a giant damage sponge, with resistance, shields and heals, so you'll want to come back once you've got some better gear and talents and can outdamage its defences. You're doing really well already and if you manage to survive a few levels of Dreadfell you should have some ace gear and get the job done. It's also good to keep a lookout for talents that force abilities into cooldown upon hit, as its immune to stun and can 't be kept from doing its thing that way - that is assuming that it isn't bugged, but that instead it finished its cooldown on its heal before you could kill it. If not then that's a shame since you're doing so well, but the quest isn't essential so you can still continue! The update might also help in that case.

The update you can probably install if it it's the 1.5.2 version and you're playing the 1.5.1 or 1.5.0 version. I've only had some saves break with the milestone updates, but if you're already playing 1.5.0 or above then it should be fine. Just download the whole installer and have it install over your old directory, no need to uninstall it, and you should be fine. The game has an in-game option to back to older versions if you want to, so you can always choose to do so if you run into any problems.

Also, if you do happen to die, keep in mind that the game starts with less than 1/4 of the classes and half of the race options unlocked, so you probably already unlocked a couple, plus there are also permanent talent trees to be unlocked. Losing is winning!

Fortuk: snip
Thanks Fortuk. As it turns out, that's exactly what I did. Went back to Dreadfell, and did another level, and came across a nice new Greatsword, with much better base stats, and also had some very decent Fire and Crippling attributes. Headed back to Last Hope and was able to bring my big, nasty buddy down finally. And wouldn't you know it...the very next coffin I opened, had another Bone Giant in it, lol. This dude didn't have the Reassemble trait though, and I handily dropped him like a bad habit. Eventually made it to Celia, and took her down without too much trouble, and was able to clear the dungeon. Back to Dreadfell now. Getting very busy with work again (IRL), so my gaming time is a little tougher to come by atm, but I'll be back there before too long!

Thanks for the reply bud :-)

No problem! :) Good gear makes a huge difference, so you should be good to go for the rest of those areas.
