You guys do realize that you can download the old version if it's that much of a problem for you even with the addon existing right? Just go redeem the codes given to you at the website and get the older version there.

This is all pretty silly on both sides (and kind of moot since we're talking open source here) if you ask me, but you still have every opportunity to play it.
