Has anyone tried it on Linux via Wine yet? Any success? Works out of the box?

The version on wine's appdb is quite old, and is not the gog version since it was just released here.

It should work.

Works fine in Wine for me. No winetricks or any special settings required. I'm using the default setup in the game, which is the Glide-wrapper (space.exe).

Only problem I have so far is when you launch the ship, it's sometimes like you have a key pressed down all the time, and the ship is doing loops over and over. From some googling, it seems this is a game issue and not due to Wine itself. Using ALT+Tab to leave the window and then go back seems to fix the issue.
