Hey folks. I've never played SS2 before but I would like to install and use the suggested mods listed by GOG. Someone in that thread posted a more comprehensive install procedure by someone called Camaro or something.

The first problem I'm having is that after first running the SS2 Tool after installing the game, GOG says it should create a folder called DataPermMods folder in which all the mods are unpacked. I do not have said folder when I run the tool.

Now that other link to an updated installation directions stats this:

"Every mod needs its own containing folder so that the common elements between them don't mix, like the obj, mesh, snd folders etc. Before extracting everything to DMM, put each zip file's contents in a new folder with the mod name on it, unless the author already did it."

I also do not have this DMM location it says to extract to. I'm very confused. I thought this would be easier than this but following both GOG and this person's directions I hit a brick wall right at the very beginning of my attempt to mod the game. Maybe its something simple I'm missing. Any help would be very much appreciated. To be clear, I'm only trying to mod the game with the mods GOG listed. I'm trying to do it in order but I can't even get started as what I'm seeing does not match at all what either of these sets of instructions state I should be seeing.

-Also, GOG says its not recommended to use any mod manager tools yet Camaro's instructions sates the use of Blue Mod Manager. This all seems to be far too confusing. Thanks for any help.

if you mean the very old mod spotlight, yeah, I should probably ask GOG to take that down. go here.
Thank you for that link. I will start fresh with those directions and see how it goes. Cheers.
Thanks again for that link. I followed that and it looks like everything installed fine. The game looks great. However I'm having a problem with the sound. I do not hear any of what I think are supposed to be audio logs or robot voices in the Basic Training area in the game. I can hear sound, blips, white noise, foot steps and the first robot when you enter training area but I don't hear voices or music.

I looked around and some were able to fix it by changing sound to 16 channels or by disabling and re-enabling Open AL or hardware sound but nothing I've tried helps. I still can't hear what I'm supposed to. Does anyone know how I can fix that? Does the enhanced soundrack mod effect this at all and is there something in the load order I'm missing?

Edit: Okay the voices and music are working now. I'm not sure exactly what did it. I re-ran the SS2Tool and did the update only while also ticking off some of the mod options it has and I also adjusted the middle sound slider in the game options(forget what its called. Something about balance) and it works. Thanks again for the updated link you posted.

the position bias in the sound option, most likely - it needs to be in the middle.
