voodoo47: the mod already exists, but to actually make the filtered textures look.. well, normal, they need to be recreated from scratch - the detail simply isn't there. like for example, you would think the screen text looks like small cubes because it's unfiltered, but no, it's really just small cubes and rectangles, no matter whether filtering is on or off. so you will need a texture mod as well, one that would do for SSR what SHTUP does for SS2.
SHTUP-SSR sometime, probably.
also, pretty much zero chance this would be added officially, the unfiltered look is fairly well liked by the new players, and that's where most money is, so they won't bother (for the very reason this is not just a simple switch, and would require new resources to be created), I reckon.
does anyone else find the situation where SS2, a 1999 game, with a 2005 mod applied looks better than SSR, a game from 2023 amusing?
The reason the mod looks like crap is because anisotropy filtering is turned off by default.
I turned on AF in the Nvidia Control Panel, and it looks much better.
Texture filtering has been in 3D games since GL Quake and Quake 2.
Just because people tolerate, or got used to the pixelated look, doesn't mean everybody likes it, or that giving players an option wouldn't be a good thing.
