I was able to play the game just fine back in January 2020. I had to jump through a few hoops because I have a special character in my username.
So, in my case, using windows compatibility mode, I got the game to load. However, instead of using the default appdata folder, that is:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Nightdive Studios\System Shock EE
the game was using this one instead:
C:\ProgramData\Nightdive Studios\System Shock EE
After I figured that out, I got the nice QoL mods to run fine and didn't need to make a new windows user to play it.
Well, NOW, after the latest update, the game loads sure, but when I try to start a new game, I get an error message and it crashes:
"A fatal error has occured in System Shock. Error code 16391. File error: creating initial game - likely insufficient disk space."
Now, I have more than sufficient space on disk, so that's not the issue. The install directory is D:\Games\System Shock Enhanced Edition, so the 64 character problem is also not the issue.
I discovered the game is now using the "proper" appdata directory "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Nightdive Studios\System Shock EE", so it has a foreign character there... sigh, having to long into a different user to play this game is friggin' dumb, and it worked just fine before the update.
Is it at all possible to run this on my default user?
PS: You have to jump through so many hoops to play this game properly... I thought the whole point of the enhanced edition was to make things LESS cumbersome...
