I navigated to the controls.cfg file but can't figure out what to type into the file in order to map the independent mouse buttons and the mouse wheel to different commands. I'd like to map the mouse wheel to changing weapons and the 2 side buttons on my 5-button mouse for using grenades & items. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sadly, you can't remap the mouse keys. I searched about it too but haven't found any information about it. Only the sensitivity and inverting can be changed. The good thing is, you'll become accustomed to the controls quickly! I use the left handed control scheme and it suits me just fine. ;)
