I'm trying to run SS2 on my laptop, but I'm getting screen tearing so severe is makes the game unplayable.

I'm running an i7 @ 2.20ghz, 8gb RAM and an ATI RADEON 6750M. Windows 7 64.

Any input would be much appreciated!
And turning on vsync didn't work?
I don't see a v-sync option?

Vsync is on by default, so that isn't the explanation.

Try this: go to the installation folder (C:\GOG Games\System Shock 2, or wherever you installed it to) and edit cam_ext.cfg

Go to the force_windowed entry and remove the semicolon in front of it so it just looks like

force_windowed

and save your changes. This will make the game run in a borderless fullscreen window (assuming the in-game resolution is set the same as your desktop resolution).

See if that fixes the screen tearing.

Fixed the problem entirely! Thanks. :)

I'm having the same issue with the screen tearing, but on a Mac desktop. The game works fine otherwise, but the screen tearing is pretty bad. I've tried several things in the cam_ext.cfg file, including the windowed mode, and none have done the trick. I capped my fps at 60, which helped a little bit, but I don't necessarily want to go any lower. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
have you also tried to set
3d_disp_limit_gpu_frames 1 1
?
