I'd like to know what the best mods for System Shock Enhanced Edition are alongside Rewired, but I'd also like to hear ideas for mods as well. Personally I have no hope of making mods as I'm still learning the basics of Marathon modding and how to script levels properly for Tomb Raider.

My ideas for System Shock 1 mods would be:

Metroid 1 3D: Based on Zero Mission but done in SS1E's engine with swimming from Ultima Underworld added back in and an improved jumping and climbing system to fit Metroid's platforming nature, though based more on Metroid Prime as that game is 3D. An expansion pack based on Another Metroid 2 Remake is optional. I suggest this mod idea because System Shock 1 is a 3D Metroidvania game, with the Deus Ex style augmentations serving in place of suit upgrades and weapons (though you still find progressively better guns).

Space Colony ARK: Citadel Station makes me think of the ARK, as they are both research labs dabbling in mutations and genetic modification and they both have giant Tachyon laser cannons built into them. The ARK is just missing the groves and SHODAN. I'd quite like to see a representation of the ARK in system shock as best as the engine will allow, including areas from both Sonic Adventure 2 (Dreamcast version) and Shadow the Hedgehog.

Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 Enhanced Edition: I have the original games but I haven't beaten even UU1 yet because the controls are horrible. If someone could reverse engineer those games for the System Shock 1 Enhanced engine with UU's features intact (swimming, magic etc) but with improvements, I'd be all over those.

What mod ideas would you guys like to see?
those are total conversions/fan missions, not mods. as mentioned earlier, words are important, use them properly, people.

anyway, I don't think any of that stuff is possible, as you would need a pretty powerful script engine, and SS1 doesn't have that, afaik.

I thought that Total conversions/Fan missions and mods were one and the same, or at least one type of mod. Still, they might be possible in the future if the System Shock remake has mod support.
there are distinctions between the two (or rather, three), much like there are distinctions between turtles, tortoises and terrapins.

anyway, I'd be pretty happy with seeing just a few more simple mods (and by that, I mean replacements for the vanilla resources) - higher res textures, fixed audio logs that refer to Shodan as either "she" or "it" at all occasions, and perhaps 3d models for objects and even AIs.

few more fan missions (like ReWired) would also be nice, especially if situated in non-spaceship environments (surface colonies and similar). don't think anything more is possible at the moment.

btw, here's a topic with brainstorming of an upcoming SS1 fan mission, feel free to comment/suggest things (guest posting is allowed).

A lot of what you want would need modification of the source code to support such features. Now of course, that's possible thanks to the source release. But keep in mind if you're thinking of Doom, and all the new functionality and mods made possible by its source ports, that the source for that was released nearly 21 years ago. That, and the first level/resource editors were coming out within about a month of its release. People knew most of the ins and outs of the engine, what it could do, and some things the devs didn't even know it could do, well before the code release.
